Why are so many CRT and LCDs at this max resolution? I remember back in the day, nearly all CRTs had 1600x1200. It's understandable for flat screens, but CRTS, this is unacceptable! (I went through pages of newegg.com and i saw like one or two 1600x1200 of CRT and LCD combined)

btw i have 1280 flatscreen, but its flatscreen!

Yeah i know, isn't that crazy? used to be every single one i saw was 1600

LCD's have native resolutions, and wont run anything higher, most are 1280x1024, while dell has a 20" LCD with 1600x1200 native resolution for like $900.
Most cheap CRT's will support up to 1280x1024, while more expensive ones like NEC's will support way higher, but it also depends on the size of the monitor I guess.

I have a 19-inch monitor that can go to 1920x1440 but I keep it at 1280x1024 because that is the highest resolution I find comfortable reading text. I used to use a 17-inch that would go 1600x1200 but I used it at I think 1152x864 for the same reason.

It may be that monitor manufacturers are saving money by not supporting resolutions that most people don't need or want.
