Did i buy a bad card?

Ive bought a Radeon 9600XT 128 without looking into it first, BAD BAD Fupa
I was just sooo glad to get away from a GForce 4. Now Im not realy happy with it. and its my own Fault
but i was woundering if there are any good OCing stories with this card or am i just S!@# outa luck?

Problem is that the 9600 is a 4 pipe card. I have one in a rig I never use and even clocking it as high as it can go dosent make much difference ( at least to me). Is there any way you can return it and shoot for a 9800 non pro? A used 9500 or 9700 would be better also.

YA, the 9600 lets you get in the game, just not play at high settings in the newest titles.

OCing will help it get the settings up one notch but thats about it. 16 pipes or bust. :santa:

Seems to be the big thing with expensive toys, it's all about pipelines. I do understand the need to run more currents of data through though.

Its not a bad card, depending on what you payed for it. For ~$100 its an excelent choice, nearly as fast as the 9700's which you can get for around that(though it IS worth the extra for a 9700). Now for $150-$200, the 9800pro or 6600gt is a MUCH MUCH better choice.

the 9600xt isnt close to a 9800pro, not even 9700pro. I have both 8 pipes and 256 bit ram, I would totally crush a 9600xt by at least 50% can you return or ebay it and buy a used 9700pro on ebay for just over $100

It's not a really bad card. I think it should plya HL2 pretty ok.

The 9700pro's are twice as fast as the 9600XT's......... It isnt nearly as fast heck the 9500np are faster.

Its a good card for $100 but its nothing i would have gotten, oh well iv done some crappy buys in my life some i really regreted.

The 9600XT will play all current games just not @ very good settings.

9600XT is OK if thats all you can afford. gets you in the game but you really do need a better card for the newest games. it the lowest card i will tell peeps with a new system to buy. i hope for an upgrade soon. :santa2:

i paid full pop for mine less than a year ago but got HL2/CS:S beta out of the deal so it hurts a little less.

How do you figure? My 9500np is whipped at stock by a 9600xt. Modded to 9700np(which is just a few percent short of a 9700pro) the 9600xt is about 75-90% it's speed, dropping closer to 75% as the resolution goes up.

Also, a 9600xt can run doom3 at high-ultra high at 1024x768.

Wait A Second

Its not a bad card. a week ago I had a 5700LE 256MB which is now for sale. Just dont crank settings up on games past medium and dont run at high resolutions. 1280 and under is fine. It will last u about 1 year the card if u dont run doom 3.

Just don't turn AA and AF on. you should run the games pretty well.

if your getting almost the same performance with the 9600xt as 9700pro, your badly cpu limited, even more than I am cause the 9700pro has twice the pipes and 256 bit ram man.

The 9600 also has much higher clocks. Now if the XT ran at 325 core instead of 500, that would be a different story. And no, I am not cpu limited. Sure, an FX55 would give me an increase, but only by like 5fps at max in worst case scenario. The only thing im cpu limited in is 3dmark 2001, which is useless anymore.

Btw go ahead and crank up the AF, it does not hurt your performance much at all. Usualy 2-8% decrease.

my 9700pro at 325 with 8 pipes would be like a 9600xt at 650 with 4 pipes then you would need double my ram clocks since mines 256 bits. sorry but there is 50-100% performance gains with 9700p vs. 9600xt

Well, perhaps in theory, but its not what the benchmarks say. Plus you have to take the vertex shaders into account as well as a few others.

How do i figure?? You have not seen the benchies from those cards comparing them have you ?, If you look at the benchmarks below thier kinda old but it has the 9600xt compard with the 9700 and 9800's. The 9600xt get about 20-50fps lower then the 9700pro on those demo's............. :santa2:

i was wrong about the 9500np iment the 9500Pro

I can run doom3 @ Ultra high Quality on 1024x768 on my 9700pro also but i prefer to play it @ 1280x960

at what 10FPS. your on crack. the best i ever got was 8x6 high or 10x7 med but that was borderline playable with frames into the high teens at times.

Heh my thought exactly. @ those 1280x960 Ultra high detail i mentioend my 9700pro did i was being sarcastic by that, i ment that yea i can get 10fps also but @ that resoltuion hehe.

My 9700pro can play @ 1280x960 with 2xAA 2xAF, Medium details and get about 30-40fps. I can in no way and no how play @ 1280x960 with Ultra high details no AA/AF, same with 1024, Ultra high is basicly imposible to run @ with these cards, unless you like to play @ 5fps...

Did i buy a bad card?
