I have 1 250 GB SATA drive. I don't entirely understand the RAID concept. Should I and can I use this feature?

raid requires 2 identical drives.... the idea is that the data is split to 2 harddrives at the same time, thereby increasing performance.

you cant have raid-0 (performance) with only 1 harddrive. Raid-1 also requires 2 harddrives but it is used for data protection not performance.... all data is copied to 2 harddrives.
