Help Wiring a Fan

I Got a 120mm Nidec fan with 4 wire leads. Red,black,green and yellow. I have no idea what the green and yellow do. I wanna get RPM monitoring on it. But plugging in the yellow does nothing. The PDF says it does support RPM monitoring.

It's a series TA450DC model B34262. It can push 130cfm at 12volts but I run it at 5v it's nice and quiet and keeps my CPU under 52 with 30 case temps.

hmm it could be it needs a ground to make the circuit for the RPM try running the green to the ground post on your MB header and the yellow to the RPM Post. You don't want to mix up and hook up the 12 VDC pin to the green the results could be devastating.

Nope nothing.

Got the green going to ground got the yellow to sens. No read out. Nothing with just yellow to sens, The fan doesn't spin with just Green to the sens. Any ideas?

Yeah give the company a call and ask them. Here is a link with the specs on your fan and contact info.

Well that tells me which wire does what but for some reason I can't get a reading off the Tach. That's really strange. Do I need to hook the (black)gnd to gnd as well as the yellow to sen to get a reading?

To me it looks like one of these 2 mystrious wires is for fan speed change and one is alarm, not tachometer. It's mysterious.
Anyway if you found if one of them is for fan speed change and which, it would probably limit guesses.

Perhaps it is like those lga775 fans with the four wires, allowing for some fancy fan speed adjustment or something. IIRC they have a red,black,yellow & green wire.

I think Green is for the fan speed change. Since if I plug it in to the sense line the fan just stops. Anyone have any idea how to hook it up to a controller?

This fan is amazing, it pumps 130CFM at 12V with 54dba. They ain't kidding, with this rating.

Option 34

Four lead wires, 2 power terminations. Low-pass/ high fail -68 alarm circuit terminated in 3rd lead wire. Fan speed control circuit terminated in 4th lead..

You truely are the fan man, I'll give em a call after I bandage up my hand, finger slipped in. Man good thing it was at 5volts at 12 I don't think I would get to keep it.
