Hey,

I am in need of something to cool Dothan. Water is going to be expensive right off the bat right now. So probably air. I need something with a small footprint and rises a little so it clears all the stuff on the ct-479.

Thanks,

-Ryan

I am sorry for the stupid question, but I take it you installed the chip on a new Pentium M motherboard or converter?

He stated in his post that he is using the CT-479 adapter.

One heatsink being used by several guys over at XS is the Zalman line because by simply turning/flipping the stock Zalman bracket it gives the needed room to compensate for the add'l height of the adapter. Other sinks like the T/R XP-90 are being used with slightly modified mounting or with slightly bent clips (this approach has a little too much guess work for my taste). The stock adapter heatsink clips are being in conjunction with several other sinks, like the SLK series, again by bending them.

Many of these alternative heatsinks require that you mod the power supply plug of the adapter, either by bending the pins so that they are 90 degrees from stock, or by removing the connector and soldering the wires directly.

Below are links to several threads that discuss these issues and others related to the Dothan systems.

At XS (in no particular order) with some being examples of what people have done with other types (non-air) cooling, but still providing insight into mounting techniques:

Well, that should eat up your next ten minutes or so. :)

Thank You Reefa.Bending the power pns would be easy. dunno about cutting off the jumpers =\ I just dont want to screw it up since I dont have the money to buy another adapter if something happens.

The main concern is putting pressure on the core unevenly.
