I'll take a look, but half the battery life doesn't sound good. Plus, it looks like the U2 is small enough. I'm thinking about the 2G 1, which is about $15 more than the 2G ipod nano. What are the advantages of the ipod nano over the u2?
compared to the U2, the nano has a color screen and (arguably) a better user interface. the iaudio players only have file tree browsing, so you look through the files just how you put them on the player. if you have them organized into folders nicely, then i imagine it works out fine. with the ipod, you can search your music by artist, album, genre.
the nano, however, gets scratched up on the front and back pretty easy. you would probably want to get a case for it, or at least some type of
skin. it also does not have FM radio or recording and would be a bit trickier to use with linux (you would have to do some tinkering
http://pag.csail.mit.edu/~adonovan/hacks/ipod.html - not sure if this is the best way, just the only one i found with a quick search. i'm sure there are other guides, though).
i assume you were using neweggs prioce for the iaudio U2

you should also know that if you are a student or a teacher, or know a student or teacher that would be willing to orser for you, you can get the 2gb ipod nano for $179 through apples education discount.
so the iaudio has more features and will be easier to use in linux. the nano has a color screen, will be cheaper, but will be harder to use with linux.
