Hello everyone. I am currently in the process of upgrading my rig. This is my main question. At first I was planning on buying the 64 4000+ but i was under the assumption that the AMD 64 4000+ was the only 64 with a 1mb l2 cache. However, I found out that I was wrong. If you want to know the specifics on the models, here's AMD official page. http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/ProductInformation/0,,30_118_9485_9487^10248,00.html

My question is, I plan on getting a 3700 instead because it is $200 instead of $330 and still has the 90nm with a 1mb l2 cache. I also plan on buying the Geforce 7800GT. With this graphics card, will it play everything perfect. I want to have a perfect gaming rig but i didn't think i would tell much of a difference between the 4000 and 3700, especially when having such a good graphics card. Do you think I should spend the extra 150 or go ahead and buy the 3700. Does anyone have the 3700+? Could you tell me how you like this processor? Thanks a bunch.

the opteron has a 1mb L2 cache and seems to work in most (maybe all) socket 939 motherboards. if you can find one still, i might suggest that over an a64. at least at the moment they are the hottest things.

BUY THE 3700 same chip just 200mhz slower.

the one I sold did 2.63 on stock volts there's a fx-55 never mind a 4000

you wont tell much difference, in real world with both chips in the same machine you will get depending on the game like 1-3 fps less maybe ??

Overclock it !

If overclocking appeals to you at all just buy a 144 opteron and you can get 2.2 out of it NP. I wouldnt pay more than $150 for a 144 or more than $200 for a 146. if you cant find them for those prices buy a 3700. The opteron is a 1mb cache just like the san diego's, basically its a renamed chip that overclocks a little better.

If you plan on overclocking, I would suggest getting an Opteron 144 or 146 instead.
Otherwise, the 3700+ should do you fine for gaming.
