I just bought the LG 203wt 20" widescreen monitor but it doesn't come with DVI cable so what is the best choice? will generic acoustic DVI cable perform just as good as more expensive one?

is there some difference in quality between cheaper and more expensive cables, any feature differences?

This is the Acoustic DVI cable that sells for $40 at futureshop

I live in montreal, is there any cheaper cables available in some other store?

When it comes to cables, you really should choose a quality cable. High data throughput cables require magnetic shielding and quality crafting to maintain the integrity of the data (especially over long cables near other cables). I recommend you don't settle for anything less than Acoustic Research or Monster Cable.

I was under the impression that with DVI it really doesn't matter the quality used, just as long as the data gets through. Or perhaps I have it mixed and Analog was what I was thinking of.

Just about any DVI cable available will perform well for this application. You'll notice little or no difference between a $9 "generic" and a high $ cable.

Even "generic" DVI cables will feature gold-plated pins, good quality shielding and meet TMDS specifications and fully comply with DVI standards defined by DDWG.

Honeslty I wouldn't even waste 40.00 on a short run DVI cable. A freind of mine picked one up at Radio Shack for around 20.00 I belive.

On the topic of Monster Cable... don't buy it. Its a waste of money. Sure its decent cable, but you can get better cable for much much less. I'd say that that AR cable would work just as well.

If you want to get some good cable, I'd get this... http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/dvi/index.htm

PS: make sure you get the right kind (double link vs. single link.)

Correct. With digital signals cable quality doesn't matter. It either works or it doesn't. With analog signals the quality of the cable does matter.

If you are using any Digital signal DVI, HDMI, then spending $100 for a cable is worthless. The data is a 1 or 0, the quality of that 1 or 0 is pretty much aok for any standard length of cable.

If you are using any Analog signal, Component, VGA, then it could be worth the money for a cable because the quality of that signal will directly affect the quality of the picture. However, if you buy one of those fancy dancy gold plated cables there can be some interferance if you do not have gold plated connectors on your tv. (mismatched resistances, etc, however it may or may not be noticable)

Any DVI-D (sometimes called 25+4 or 24+5 pin) cable will work - note that a DVI-I cable (sometimes called 24 or 24+1 pin) will not fit in the monitor. You can use a single link cable, but might as well get a dual link because there isn't any price difference.

I'm using one of these: http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=004927&cid=CA.664

Any local computer store should have something comparable.

Maybe: http://www.microbytes.com/computer/ordinateur/product_info.php?products_id=19745 ?

I just got mine from ebay for $5. Hell I have a couple from Dell (I work in IT) sitting around my house. If you want one and will pay for the shipping let me know.
