new to posting but been reading a fair amount of info =p anywho...i snagged up a cheap 3500+ and a used neo2 plat thinking i could oc it a good bit. well my goal was at least 2600. My problem atm is i cant seem to get it to pass prime95 set at 260 x 10 with memory at 200 or even at 166 dividers. I ever loosened up the timings to 3-3-3-8-2T and it still failed. it gave the expected .05 or some such error.

I followed the steps in all the A64 oc guides i found here and on all the other boards results are a follows.
HTT max: 280 (i am sure this can get higher)
CPU max: 2.7ghz
Memory max: 285

most i can get out of this stable is 2400 or 2500. with 2400 the memory runs at 200mhz on the 166 divider and on 2500 it runs at 208. Also my vcore seems to stick at 1.4-1.425 in cpu-z even tho its set at 1.5 in the bios...would that affect the OC stability at all?

Specs are:
3500 venice core
Neo2 Plat flashed with Sideeffects 1.D beta1 bios
OCZ 3200 Plat rev2 2x512
BBA x800xl agp

any info would help =X

What is your power supply rating and brand?
What is your memory voltage at?
What are your Core Temps?

That also might be all she wrote, if your getting 2500 out of it that is a 12% OC. No matter what I tryed with my 3800+ 12.2% OC is all I could muster, that is fairly normal on Air cooling and a more or less stock setup.

:welcome: to the forums
You may be at your CPUs limit. I had a 3500+ that was only 100% stable @ 2.4... It sux I know
Keep reading the stickys and on your mobo bios and let us know what you find.

Thermaltake 480 watt http://www.overclockercafe.com/Reviews/other_misc/Tt_Butterfly_480w/
Memory volt stock is 2.75
So far i'v seen 50c max on the core using stock hsf. if i can get it to 2.6 or even stay at 2.5ish area i'lll more or less invest in an xp-90.

just had prime95 on for over 2hrs @ 2.4ghz w/ memory at 200mhz. i'll prob try a 2.5 solid prime95 later on tonight. what i dont understand is why at 2.5 the memory is 208 and runs stable but i bump it up to 2.6 with mem at 216 it fails. maybe it needs mroe volts?

thanks for the input btw

If your sure your Mem is at stock voltage now ... it certainly can't hurt to give it a little more. Usually they are very conservative. I assume it has spreaders also?

Your signiture says you are using "OCZ 3200 Plat rev2 2x512" memory. If that's the case its maximum rated speed is 200Mhz and by using 260x10 on a 166 you are running it @ 215Mhz. While OCZ memory might be good quality memory I'm not sure if there are any gaurentees you can run it this fast. Perhaps try a 150 divider?

i gave up on trying for 2.6 and it now runs stable at 2.5 w/ a 166 divider: 250x10, mem at 208. Did a prime95 run for 10hrs and it didnt spit out an error or anything. even with the flash bios enabling the 150 and 183 bios they dont seem to work or wanna run stable at all. if i ever get a new set of ram i might go and try 2.6 again but 2.5 is fine for now.

thanks for the input and such :)

an update! got it to run prime95 stable at 1:1 so cpu is 2.5 and mem is 250. not bad for a $171 upgrade from a 3200+ xp =p.

another question tho. using the stock heatsink still and i am looking for a aftermark one. so far i'v considered either a xp-90, a zalman hsf (not sure if it will fit on a neo2 due to size), an amd stock x2 4 heatpipe cooler (mainly due to the price is low), any suggestions for a low cost hsf or such would be cool~

The XP-90 is the workhorse of the low priced after market heatsink and I think it fits almost any case or motherboard. I would recommend on it. :)

any input on the stock x2 hsfs with the heatpipes?

found someone selling em for 20 bucks which aint bad compared to 30+ for the xp90 or zalman. prob can replace the stock fan with a higher cfm one also or even do an 80 to 120 deal.

Edit: Also to add the cooler master hyper 48 doesnt seem to bad. i am sure these questions should go in another section but making another thread is a waste of space =p
