Folder double click results in a "search" window rather than opening file

Basic question; when I double click a file folder, it opens a windows "search" tab instead of actually opening the folder. Haven't found a solution in folder options or anything of the like. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks again all.

I had this happen once but I have no idea why. In order to fix it, copy the following into a notepad window and save it as something.reg (name doesn't matter as long as you use the .reg extension) to desktop or wherever you can find it. Double-click the reg file and add it to the registry when prompted. You might have to reboot but it should fix things:

------------

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell]
@="none"

------------

grumperfish's suggested registry fix should solve your problem, but if not... type regsvr32 /i shell32 in the Run box, and click OK.
