I'm building a budget machine for my room mate basically a WoW box, and im trying to decide on a mobo. I have a 3700+ already trying to decide between these two boards, I haven't heard much about evga boards but I love their vid-cards.

or the foxconn

feel free to suggest another board as well...but it can;t be anymore, my grocerie list is $60 over budget as is that I have to trim and I don't want to do it on the mobo, and I really don;t think going to a VIA board is going to save enough money to make it worth while.

i had the evga nf41, good and stable, although temp readouts were off
not a whole lot of oc options, but enough that i took my 3700 to 2.75

Of those two, I'm not sure which to pick. Both seems to be able to OC OK. I'm leaning towards Foxcom just because it's not a micro ATX and has some good extra goodies.

I usually don't buy micro ATX unless it comes with a vid card (and doing a budget build). If you are OK with micro ATX, I would go with this Biostar. It OCs very well. Video is decent. More than good enough for WoW.

I dunno isn't biostar an off brand? I was trying to not do onboard vid..because her budget only is going to allow for 1gig RAM so I didn't want the video card to steal more of it since she wants to play WoW. right now here is where I sit.

got the s939 3700+ with kingwin cooler $70
one of those two mobos about $71 shipped
PC3200 2x512 PQI RAM $82 shipped
BFG 7600 GT oc'd edition $98 shipped
PSU about $50 shipped
Western Digital 160Gb SATA HDD $59 shipped
Lite-on DVD-RW DL $35 shipped

total $465

$65 over budget...so I'm think I can probably trim the fat on a cheeper PSU and I probably don't have to go 7600 GT probably can do a 7600GS series and be fine, those are $80 out the door. I'm open to suggestions though. She mostly wants it as a WoW box which is not a ripped machine...but I didn't want it to be able to do WoW now and nothing else later...need some breathing room.

Going with on board video will really save you $$ because you wouldn't have to buy an extra video card. The on board 6100 is plenty good for WoW. You don't need a 7600GT for WoW but if you are planing to play more graphic intensive game, go for it.

Biostar is not nessarly an off brand. Biostar is like Chaintech, Asrock, and ECS. It primarily focused on affordable mainstream products. And like any mobo manufacturer, some products are very good some not so good. Like the Asrock Dual SATA2, the TForce 6100 939 has had a good reputation of good overclocking. I've used it in a couple budget builds for friends. No problems at all. It can do over 300 fsb easily.

If the Asrock Dual SATA2 was still available, I would go with that one if you don't want on board vid. It overclocks very well (over 300 FSB) with very minor mod and modded bios. The newer VSTA version is OK too from what I've heard but I've never used it myself. It is also upgradeable to AM2.

I'm not sure if the evga and foxcom can go over 300 FSB. Many mobos will top out around 270. Anyway, with the 11X multi on the 3700, you may not need to go that high so maybe one of those will be fine (270X11 = 2970).

well I never planned on pushing the OC to the boundries....this is going to a non-savy person so if something goes wrong later on..they won't know what to do....I'll probably give it like a 200mhz jump or so....depending on how easy it seems to get there maybe more.

what do you think about this PSU?

400w dual 12v rails $30 shipped...seems decent...I hear Rosewill is a decent brand. Was also looking at the 350w if 400w seems overkill....the 400w has dual fans which im not crazy on but people said it;s quiet

Velocity I already have a 3700+ bought for $70 with after market cooler, and I have a case...but it is an old one and will need some front panel ad on...so now I'm debating getting a cheep tower/PSU combo...but I worry about those PSU's...although I had a raidmax combo that I drew on pretty hard before and was fine. In retrospect I think I'm greatly over estimating WoW's video card needs. I'm debating either onboard 6100 or there's a rebate that brings a 7300GS for $43 shipped, I just want to make sure this can run WoW@ 1280x1024 4xAA 4xAF. I might even go onboard video and if it's lagging then get the 7300GS to put in it.

The Rosewell PSU should work fine for what you have if you don't have a high powered video card. I have a different 550W rosewell about 3 years now (for a budget build) and it works great for my xp barton with 9600 Pro. I tried it on a Venice and 6600GT system and it was having a bit of problems.

Personally, I would go with a different PSU. With that budget, I would choose one of these.

PSU is not something you should cut cost on. Especially if you are planing to add a video card. If you can afford a little more I would go with one of these. A couple of these have dual 18A 12V rails.

This is a good value but it may be pushing your budget a bit. I believe it's made by Tagan and it has dual 20A 12V rails.

here's where I'm at....if I reuse her old case she wants front USB ports....thats $15 for one of those...I'm not crazy about her old case it's exhaust fan port is for a 70mm fan (???) so I'd have to dremel probably. If I could find her a case with a good enough PSU for around $50 then I could use the integrated video mobo....and if it doesn;t run WoW good slap a 7300GS in it and be right at her budget. But I'm a little concerned about these included power supplies...ya never really really know what ya get...I had a raidmax that was great back in the day. Also...is there any draw back to using an integrated video mobo if I have to slap a video card in anyway?...I don't know how those chipsets stack up to an nforce 4....they just say it's a 6100 chipset which is the video chip, not the northbridge.

The on board video card will play WoW more than fine. The on borad video card plays Source and BF2 fine and those games are much more graphic intensive.

About the case, how about this case.

It has 2X120mm fans, it's screwless, and has the front USB. You can get this PSU with it.

It's only 300W but it'll be better than the PSU that comes with the cases. I've seen reviews where a 300W Fortron out performs a 500W Antec. It has dual 16A 12V rails and should hold.

thanks for the suggestion Spider...I don;t know as much about PSU's as I';d like....last time I built my machine I grabbed an Xclio...and love it but there's not an Xclio for under $80. With integrated video I'm more worried about it stealing RAM than I am about the GPU performance, I don't want to build a new machine and then have it chop chop in Ogrimar because the video chip is dropping the rig under 1gig RAM. But it looks like integrated mobos are the same price so might as well test the water and if it isn't enough video muscle then add the card.

If you are looking for good performance and low cost, Fortron and Sparkle are best you can get.

I don't know much about Xclio but I would not use. I would keep to the PSU names that has good reputations for PSU. Some of these are Fortron, Sparkle, Tagan, Seasonic, Zippy, PC Power and Cooling, and Silverstone. These are the best and top performers (on my list anyway).

Names like Antec, Rosewill, and Aspire (Apevia), Thermaltake, and Enermax are decent but not top quality. I try not to buy them unless it's a really good sale. Anything else, I always try to stay away unless I hear good review on them -->Like the OCZ PowerStream 520 or Corsair CMPSU-520HX and 620HX.

well if anyone is curious I ended up going with a foxconn integrated 6100 board...I used foxconn once before and was happy and once again they seem like a good choice so far. I also went with the 350w sparkle...I got the machine up and running and every thing seems good...haven't tested it in WoW or did any benching yet though.
I screwed up big time which I didn't realize until I had it running. For some reason when I ordered the RAM I thought I clicked the PC3200 box to query just that speed...and I didn't...I accidentally ordered PC2100:bang head :bang head I don't know how badly thats going to effect performance...maybe I can make up with it on an over clock or new timings or something.
