I recently bought a dynex dx-bgdtc wireless card from best buy and I am wondering if it will plug and play all right with ubuntu? It is at my girlfriend's house so I need to download any needed drivers before going over there.

Is it the dx-bgdtc card or dx-wgdtc card? I am finding lots of info on the dx-wgdtc but hardly any hits on the bgdtc when I google it.

Also if it is the bgdtc card do you know what chipset it uses? I can tell you if there are out of the box drivers by the chipset it uses.

thanx for response, card is this one here:

not sure on what chipset, how can I tell?

Ok, well there does not appear to be drivers from the manufacturer as you can tell. Two options, A) Look on the card and physically check for the chipset brand and model #, then hope there are open source drivers. B) Fall back option is to use ndiskwrapper to use the windows drivers in Linux for wireless cards. Can be a little tricky.

Apparently there is support in the kernel since kernel 2.6.17, but for the bcm4318 there is transmission issue,

I'd plug it in, and see how it works, and if ubuntu doesn't auto detect and go, then use the windows drivers and ndiswrapper.

(Second link is for fedora, but it might give you more insight into the process)

I would make sure to only buy hardware that supports linux in the future. =P

However, you can make almost any wireless card work with ndiswrapper if you have to.
