well im looking at this board

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128059&Tpk=P35-DS3L

with a q6600 intel cpu, type of ram is ddr2 1066 but im wondering what the best company for ram is. i dont plan to do much overclock on the cpu and ram, but maybe a little in the future. im kinda clueless when it comes to ram manufacturers etc. also is it better to go with 4x 1 gig sticks or 2x 2 gig sticks

thanks for the help

gskill, corsair, crucial, ocz, team group,geil,mushkin...there are a ton.if you arent planning on doing any hardcore ocing id go with a 2x2gb kit.

As maxfly said, there is a broad range of ram available to choose from. It depends on your needs really. If you're not going to oc at all, then look for a more generic ram and you'll probably be pretty comfortable with DDR2800. If you're looking to push your Q6600 then it doesn't hurt to look into some higher rated ram. I have had good experiences with the Corsair Dominator C5D chips for overclocking, as well as the ocz reaper memory. And as far as size goes? That depends on two things, 1. what type of os are you using? 32bit or 64bit...a 32bit os will only recognize between 3 and 4 gigs of memory max. 2. If you are using a 64bit os, are you planning on adding memory as a future upgrade. also take into consideration that generally the 1Gb modules tend to be cheaper and overclock better than the 2Gb modules. So if you're using a 32bit os, then consider 2x(2x1GB). 64bit, you're probably better off with 2x2GB modules and leaving room to upgrade in the future.

Hope this helps

2x 2 gig sticks is better for oc because it puts less stress on the ram controler. I like ocz, gskill, corsair, and crucial.

?
the ics are the biggest factor.if the chipset cant handle the stress of 4x1gb then theres a problem with the mb.upping the nb voltage will generally eliminate any mb limitations with regard to voltage.you definately wont get a better oc out of most 2x2gb kits vs a 2x1gb d9gmh/gkx kit.unless of course you happen upon a set of the gskill eva tested a few days ago.that is definately the execption not the norm tho.
