Do I need a backplate to install a Zalman 9700 onto a Socket 939 mobo?

I'm pretty sure my Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe does not have a backplate. The Zalman 9700 only comes with a backplate clip for a Socket 775 Mobo. Will my Socket 939 be fine without a backplate?

It'ld be nice to not need one as taking out my mobo would be annoying

I've never installed such a big hsf before and I don't want to mess anything up.

Ah I see, I don't remember putting one on but I suppose it could have been pre installed.

At any rate, I installed the 9700 and it seems to be sturdy and fine

For $20 I'm quite pleased
