I'm encountering an issue with my operating system. Its a new problem. What's happening is:
After being off for a few hours, I turn it on. It posts, I get into whatever I'm doing surfing the internet/playing WoW and what have you, and then just out of nowhere it hardlocks and I gotta reboot. After the reboot I get everything back where it was. I carry on with what I'm doing and it doesnt crash until I turn the computer back off. Which may be hours after I reboot. It just seems really wierd.

Please help! I'll be happy to answer any questions people might need to know to help me fix this.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I'm using Windows Xp Pro 64-bit

Is this overclocked? If so, try running stock.

Make sure to manually set memory voltage. You could run memtest.

Disable unnecessary programs from loading.

Check the Event Viewer logs for any critical errors... Start | Run | Type eventvwr.msc in the Run box, and right click--> "Properties" the latest critical errors you've received (critical errors are in Red). Copy and paste (use the "Copy to Clipboard" button under the arrow buttons in the "Event Properties" window) a couple of the latest critical error messages as they appear under the "Description" field, and post them in this thread.

After you hit the "Copy to Clipboard" button in the "Event Properties" dialog, the contents in the Description field will be copied to the ClipBook Viewer (ClipBoard). You can then just paste the contents into your post, as there is no Edit-->Select All-->Copy function in ClipBook. In addition you could type clipbrd in the Run box, which will open the ClipBook Viewer containing the copied text from the Event Properties dialog... then perform a File-->Save As, and save the file with a *.txt extension. You could then perform a Edit-->Select All, then do a copy/paste of the text in your new post... so you have a couple different options.

i think it may have something with my bluetooth transmitter

I don't know if this helps you any, but the same thing happened to me once when I ran an old cpu I had and oc'd the crap out of it, come to find out it was just dying. I had to pump more voltage into it to make it work right, and eventually had to lower the clock speed. right now it's running 500Mhz under stock @ 1.55 volts rofl....

Of course, that doesn't mean that's your problem, just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents....

I would try to run memtest if that passes for a couple hours then try orthos off of something like bartpe (cd bootable windows) just to rule out any cpu/memory problems.

I had a problem a couple years back with random reboots that turned out to be the cd drive going bad.

I'm gonna try and update the drivers for my bluetooth transmitter and see if that does anything...it seems like that is the problem also when it does its hardlock, I gotta reconnect my bluetooth mouse AND transmitter...real awkward

my cd drives arent even being recognized I just noticed this now. They dont show up...I'll mess with the memtest but all the components are only MAYBE 8 months old... maybe get a new bluetooth transmitter

Hrm...that cd-drive thing might not be a bad idea, because only one of my cd-drives works and neither of them are recognized by the computer
