I am looking for some ways to broad block ads etc and instead of doing it browser based, I would prefer to use a ?proxy? if at all possible that is local to my firewall.

I am sure there is a way to do it via the firewall but I am unsure where to even start with that endeavor. I need to redo my smoothwall regardless, it has been up for over 2 years and I have no clue what the password is to even log into it.

Basically to break it down a bit better:

if it is at all possible to import from http://easylist.adblockplus.org/abp-tracking-filter.txt

to the firewall rules, I would rather have the FW doing more work and leave the ADB feature with a minimal block effort. Some of the lists I am part of are LARGE and intense and will significantly delay the startup of FF.

Any ideas?

Looking at that it answers some of my questions and also brings up a few ideas. I would prefer to do an ACL by MAC instead of IP (yeah I know MAC addresses can be faked but no one is going to that much effort in my building I think).

I figure that I will set up the ACL to play some really loud and obnoxious wav/file when non approved machines try to sneak on my AP.

Yeah, there are tons of blacklists for IPtables too.

I have a few that block most of asia from my webserver.

I'm not using smoothwall, but in IPCOP I have dansguardian set up, and it blocks pretty much everything, I'm pretty sure they have it for smoothwall as well.
