A few weeks ago I picked up a 4870 to replace my toaster...or I mean GX2 and the card is running like a champ. I am using rivatuner to overclock the card and it's doing a great job. So far I'm up to 830mhz core 1000mhz on the memory, and I feel it can go even higher. What about the average overclock for a 4870.

Also, is a good way to look at a 4870 is that it is a 4850 but with a volt mod and better cooler. and GDDR5

Well it depends on a few things. The first gen 512 4870 might be different compared to the second gen 512 4870. Then you got your 1gb 4870 flavor. I think the best thing you can do is look on HWbot.org at people with 4870's. Or look on these forums. Or look on any database with videocards (Futuremark for example).

I can tell you mine can go to 1100 on the memory and 790 on the core and that is my max.

I use 850/1200 for benching and 800/1100 for 24/7 use on my 4870's. This is with the stock coolers and a 120mm fan sitting on top of the cards. I really need to get my MCW60-4870's installed, just haven't found the time to do it.

My max core is about 825 and I haven't tried to take my memory past 1040 yet. I'm sure that I have more room to take the memory up so I'll give it a shot tonight.

I can pass Furmark with my PCS+ 1gb at 850/960 but sooner or later it will the GPU crash in games so it stays at the stock 800/925.
