What is the best chip my mobo can take?

Hi there i am currently running an E6600 @3.01ghz on an Abit AW9D-Max mobo. What is the best core 2 Duo & quad core chip it will take? I might be better with duo if i can put a v. good one in??

You could start with with overclocking to 3.6+ and see if that helps

Looks like you can go with a E8400(CO) or a Q6700, unless you want to go all out and grab a QX6800. Here is the CPU support list for your mobo:
