i want to get a new comp to go with my
new card, it is a ATI Radeon 4850 x2

i need a board/cpu and ram

i don't know what is good (or the lastest and geatest)
anymore as i have been away from the scene for a while

should i go Intel or AMD

i will order what you guys suggest, i currently have what you guys see in my sig. kinda old huh?

i plan on ordering tomorrow so please fire away, also i wanna kinda keep everything under $300 if possible
i dont need anything super fast, just eneough not to bottleneck my new card

I always come here for answers as this forum is more knowlegable than anyone else out there
as you can see it havent been active in a long time but that will change :D

Thanks in advance

Motherboard, Ram, and CPU. For that price, i.e. <300. Go AMD :p. Simple. As I always suggest.. The 720 AM3 is a sweet tri-core. 4gb of ddr2(Or 3? :O).. etc. I'll compile it below properly with pricing.

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103649&Tpk=am3 720 $139
Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128378 $140
RAM:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227293 $63.99

139 + 140 + 64 = 343. Over the limit. So lets see.. - 15 off the motherboard after in-mail rebate.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103680&Tpk=amd am3 550 115 for a Dual Core 3.1ghz 550 BE.

So it's 115 + 125 + 64 = $304. Before postage.. Mind you, we could easily drop that motherboard and RAM, and make it AM2+ and DDR2 instead, but I like to recommend the more 'permanent' option. Save you from replacing anything other than the CPU/GPU later. Let me know how you like/don't like that, and if you would rather a DDR2/Am2+ system and I'll make another =)

Mobo/RAM is fine. But I implore you to stay away from older phenom models PLEASE Lol. If you insist on it, go for it though. But it's an older generation now, and they just aren't up to par with todays standards. Why do you think it's so much cheaper :p. For the simple lack of clock speed I'd say it MAY bottleneck your GPU to some degree, but generally not.

Is there any reason you want a quad core? Do you do many tasks that require multi-processing intensively? Or it just sounds good? :p.

Considering how you changed the system I suggested, I'll again suggest the X2 550 BE. If the main thing you do is game, surf the web, and basic stuff, it'll suit you far better. If you do however do a lot of audio/video/image editing, animating, etc, then the 9600 will probably be your better bet, until you wish to upgrade later of course to a nicer PII 940 or something like that.

cool. i thibnk i will go with the proc you suggested then

i am ginna have 3 screens and i like to have several things going at once such as surfing the web on one monitor as i am paying a game on the main monitor

but i think that will all change when i get the 3rd screen as i am gonne use all 3 for gaming, i dont game as much as i used to but i think i will start gaming more especially since i am gonna get COD 5 and Diablo 3 when it comes out

so it looks like i am gonna order this today

MOBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813138130 = $109.99
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231166 = $49
CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103649 = $139.00
Paste: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100007 = $8.95

for a grand total of

$307.93

thanks for you help, I think it should be fast as heck huh?
the video card comes in tomorrow from UPS i think, can't wait

lolololol...

got it one day early (today)

but i can't use it, as i suspected my SATA slots were in the way of the card

the card is soo long it covers all 4 SATA slots
so i gotta wait for my new MOBO and stuff...
i spacifically got a mobo so that the SATA slots werent in the way

well i had to go to the store to get 90 degree SATA cables (for current system, till new one gets here)

and installed the goodies it cames with

i need to install Vista upgrade to run 3DMark Vantage first though
then i will get benchmarks for the old system, then compare it to my new system when it comes it

gonna be huge...lol

o... and 3 monitors is for multitasking spreadsheets and such
