I have a HP pavilion XE783 700 Mhz and has the intel 820 chip set.

I've read somewhere on the net Asus is a manufacturer of motherboards for HP.

I went to HP.com and made a search which ended up in failure.

Can some of you Guru's help a newb out?

In a manner of speaking, an i820 is an i820, is an i820. It's a pretty safe bet that your mainboard can't host a Tualatin or a Tualacelly.

If this mobo is true to OEM mainboards, your BIOS options are very limited. It's possible that www.centrix-intl.com may carry, or have info on this mobo. They carried an Asus manufactured for H-P i4440BX board recently. Surprise, not, Asus had not a whisper about the mobo on its site.

The unpleasant truth about Tier-one OEM machines, like Dell, Compaq, Gateway and H-P is that they're usually not worth upgrading. The manufacturer's simply don't offer BIOS or other meaningful upgrades.

Their concept of "ugrading" is quite simple: Order a brand new machine from us. Throw the one you have into the trash.
