What happens if the pump fails? I would think that the pump needs to be connected to the CPU fan header so the computer would shut down on loss of the pump RPM.

I would recommend that, if the fan header (that the pump is plug in to) could be made to shut the computer down on loss of RPM - do it.

I just got an H50 and that's how I would like it to work.
 
Once you get up to a certain temp, it would just shut down. No harm done, unless you keep turning it on or whatnot.
