Hello everyone
I've recently been looking for a good desktop to bring to my house for use of, Gaming, Creating videos, Video editing or anything like that. I had talked to some people and for those you would obviously think (Atleast I would) that I should get an Alienware most likely. Though I'm not to interested in getting a pre-built computer, but I want to make a custom built computer. I'm looking to spend around $1500 on the Desktop and maybe up to $300 on the Desktop Monitor.

I'm not to good with what to get when it comes to building/buying computers/computer parts so I'm leaving it up to you guys to build me one you think would be best for me. As I said earlier I'm looking for something that'll be good for gaming, and video making/editing. I am also looking to spend around 2 grand at the most when I can get a job, but this is just a kind of wishlist.

I Appreciate Your Help and Thanks,
Kbman

If you're not ready to buy the parts now then its a waste of time to create a parts list. They just change too often. When you have the cash in hand I'm sure the folks here will help you out. If I were you I would keep reading this general Hardware section and learn about the current parts that you can buy now. Building a computer is pretty easy to do. Good luck with finding a job.

I appreciate the reply and yeah I wish I could get a computer now, but with no money there is also no computer sadly lol. Thanks anyways :)

Yeah, things change so fast in this market there really isn't a point to make something now that will almost be obsolete in a month. So when u r ready to buy, I would re-engage at that point.

Thanks for the help anyways. But for a typical gaming PC what should my most needed piece of hardware be? A Graphics card? Processor? Or what? Im not really doing this to get a price, but what items Ishould focus on the mostfor what Im trying to make (Gaming PC)

So yeah thanks again :)

A good system needs to be "balanced", for lack of a better word. A high end video card will be wasted if you don't have the cpu power to send information to it fast enough.

Things do change quickly in the computer world...
Intel is getting ready to release their new "Sandy Bridge" processors.
AMD is rolling out their 6000 series video cards.
Nvidia will be releasing the GTX 580 soon.

If you want to do some reading here is a buyers guide with systems at several price points.
http://www.overclockers.com/amd-intel-buyers-guide-102010/

Keep in mind that when you are ready to build these might/probably won't be the best system for the money.

Thanks again for all the help and If in my price range Ill take a look at those processors and the nvidia video card. Really what Im wanting to do is get a nice PC that will benefit me in both ways of making videos and playing games. Since they both work out as needing the same things to create better quality products such as videos needing more RAM if my knowlede is right as well as a nice Graphics card to make nice looking videos as well as get more enjoyment out of games from looking better and not lagging or anything like that. Obviously as the first person said, prices are changing and new products are being released Im going to change my mind and say that Im looking for a price now lol. If anyone could give a rough estimate on a descent computer how much money am I looking at? Just a rough estimate if anyone could help.

Thanks :)

Sounds good :)
Probably gona be a while, but hoping to get ASAP lol
Thanks everyone

count on spending at least $800 to get yourself a decent gaming rig.

Roughly speaking you should get

- Quad core CPU, AMD is best choice for low to mid range performance, Intel for upper mid range to high end performance.
- a mobo costing at least $80 that has 4memory slots and two 16X PCI-e card slots and a good chipset.
- A PSU that puts out at least 500 Watts or 600 Watts for dual video cards, costs at least $70 and made by a good maker, like Corsair, Antec, Sparkle
- a large case with lots of cooling and room enough for full length video cards
- good thermal compound (arctic Silver 5), hard drive at least 500gigabytes, any DVD drive with decent reviews headphones at least $50.
- if you plan to overclock then go to www.frostytech.com and read reviews of good coolers.

when chosing parts look to future upgradability. When building be sure to watch for static charges and secure all cables out of the way of fans. An excellent place to shop is Newegg.com. Black Friday deals are coming up real soon, watch online retailers for huge savings.

Hey guys I'm back :)
I have found some money lying around (In the form of items I'm selling on eBay)
I have alot of comics a martin guitar I dont use some golf clubs and a couple autographed baseballs by Albert Pujols and a bat by Stan Musial. In all if I sell this and some other stuff I can get anywhere from $1200 to $1600 which will probably be able to get me a nice system not even mentioning the gifts from Christmas lol. I'll have around $2000 to play with plus the job I'm applying for : )
I hope I can get a system soon and I'm planing on borrowing some money from a family member to get some stuff from newegg.com (thanks for the suggestion Wathnix) I can't wait to get this bad boy and I'm so glad for all the help

BTW if you didn't know, I posted 'Bump' to bump it up to the top posts. Just a FYI.

But uh yeah. Thanks again and keep on posting suggestions :)

If you guys like these items please tell me and if you think anything needs to be changed dont be afraid to give some input. I don't know much about computers and this is my first time, but all these parts seem to be pretty nice :)

Thanks guys xD

Drop the blu-ray drive and just get a DVD drive, you will most likely be very disappointed with blu-ray on a PC.

Also I would go for a GTX 460 with 1GB ram over that 470. It's nearly as fast and much cheaper and cooler.

Thermal compound is used between the heatsink and the CPU to greatly improve cooling. the heatsinks that come with the CPU have a wax like 'thermal pad' on them to do this but it does not do a good job, so most people who build their own just scrape it off and use a thermal paste like Arctic Silver 5. Google search it then buy some off of newegg or somewhere

I have changed the mother board to one that actually supports my DDR3 Memory and have also changed from a BluRay Read/Writer to just a simple DVD Reader. And have upgraded from the i7-930 processor to the i7-950 for an extra 20 Bucks.
The Last thing I did was I downgraded from the GeForce GTX 470 to the GeForce GTX 460. Thats the only one I'm not to sure of even though it saves me a bit and is only a little bit slower. Since this is a video editing/gaming PC I don't know for sure whether or not that was a good or bad descision. If anyone again has any help or can help me then feel free

Thanks :)
