Does something like this exist?

I've been searching and haven't seen anything, so maybe it doesn't exist. I'm imagining something with black keys that have the keys engraved/etched with a clear typeface. Has anyone seen something like this?

I really want something like this, but I really need keys to be visible either permanently or (preferably) as an option like I'm describing. Other people use my computer from time to time and it wouldn't be very nice to them.

I searched these forums and all over Google before posting this, and so far I haven't found something like this to exist.

Welcome norsk. :)

I haven't seen one like this that I know of... There are some with backlights, but not that appear blank when not lit as far as I'm aware.

I think that it could be done with a double-shot injected keys, but I haven't seen someone do it.

Check "Double Shot Injection Molding" section. Basically, they form the main part of the key first, leaving a hole for the to-be printed character. Then, they inject another color plastic. Technically, they could inject a clear or partially transparent plastic. It would show near-black when the backlight was off, but would shine through when it was on.

Thanks for the replies. What if I were to get a backlit keyboard like the Ducky shine then replace the keycaps with black on black, would the light shine through?

If those caps have transparent plastic, that should work. I'm unsure if the Ducky Shine can have the backlight turned off, though.

Hmm ok thanks. I ended up emailing WASD keyboards and MechanicalKeyboards.com regarding their black on black keys; WASD emailed back and said their keys are opaque, so I'm expecting the same response from MK. The Ducky Shine DK9008S with white backlight satisfies most of my needs, so I might just pick that up and keep looking/requesting these types of keycaps in the future.
