Just got my mobile 2500 barton from newegg. Unlocked, 0335, boots at 2500 (200x12.5 @ 1.7v), on abit kr7a-133r. Gotta do the volt mod cause 1.7v is the max. Also, i gotta look for the wire trick to get higher multis.

miraculous motherboard you have there. a KT266A board doing 200?

My Athlon XP has the id 0681-0000-FBFF-0383
So would you say its locked or not and how do you find out if it can be

Just bought a Retail Barton 2500+

I believe its a week 32 chip.

heres the codes.. anyone confirm?

AXDA2500KV4D
KQ22244L30877
PQZEA0332MPMW

even if its not unlocked.. its still a nice step from my 1.2ghz axia tbird..

thou the l1 bridges apear intact.. not burned like the l4's..

I am going crosseyed lookin at these little letters and numbers thou.

Veeborg, that chip should be unlocked, assuming you have a motherboard that can utilize the fact that it's unlocked. Not all motherboards can take advantage of them being unlocked and some uninformed users wind up thinking that the chip is locked, when it is not.

Mixsetup, the information you supplied is the wrong information to aid determining whether it is unlocked. Look at the information that Veeborg supplied. That is the information needed to predict whether it is locked or not.

IIn a nutshell, if a Bartons multiplier is factory locked, so are the bridges that would allow you to turn it into a mobile. It's been tried on locked Bartons and failed, though not by me.

It's an AQZEA not a PQZEA, see where it says 0332?
That means 2003 week 32.
It's unlocked.

EDIT: Correction, there is now a PQZEA, thanks tyson-chris!

If you don't want to overclock it further than a PR3200 (11x200), the stock heatsink that comes in the retail package will do. Remove the screws holding the copper heat spreader onto the aluminum radiating portion, clean off that thermal compound, lap the mating surfaces, apply some Arctic Silver and screw them back together. Then, lap the other copper surface that mates with your cpu core, apply some Arctic Silver and you have a fair heatsink.

I don't like nor do i want to use the stock heatsink.

thanks for the reply thou.

Veeb0rg , the slk-800a or 800u cools just as good as the 900a/900u .. If you must have a 90mm heatsink - go all out and get the sp97 which beats both 800/900 buy quite a few degrees .

well newegg doesn't have any 800's.. only the 900's

If you can't get them from newegg.com, try http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/sidewindercomputers/soccpucool.html

Also try http://www.svcompucycle.com/ and pricewatch.com for all copper Thermalrights.

Although their heatsinks are not as good as Thermalrights, Thermaltake makes a good adjustable fan: Thermaltake Smart Fan 2. It may be better than some 92 mm fans + you can adjust the noise/performance, some of the fans can be extremely loud and you may change your mind once you realize how uncomfortable high levels of noise can be.

I'd go with a combo of all copper Thermalright heatsink with Thermaltake Smart Fan 2. This cooling setup guarantees to take any 2100+ B ever made (there are no locked $62 2100+ B's) to 2.3 GHz, provided of course, mobo and Power Supply are decent.

Yeah , the Thermaltake SmartFan II is nice .. It is not as loud to me on full blast as people would like others to believe ..
Check these for "pricematching" Slk-800a w/TT SmartFan II $37 >> http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3448923608&category=42001
ALX-800 is nice too , does just as good as all copper version from reviews and weighs a lot less .. AlX-800 $21 >> http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3449565017&category=3673
Slk-800u w/TT SmartFan II $42 >> http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3449565287&category=42001
Slk-800a Only $24 >> http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3449565267&category=42001
Only problem with eBay I can see is it may be higher priced because shipping is higher ..
3dGameMan is auctioning a sp-97 also .. ONLY $30 currently ($45 new) >> http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3448208716&category=3673

Veeb0rg,

Get the SLK900U or SLK947U and mount it through the back of the mother board if it has the 4 mounting holes. What mobo did you get? I just installed the 'a' clip-on version on a friend's PC and there's still a little wiggle in it while the 'U' version in my box is rock solid.

Hm, isn't 'wiggle room' important if you transport your computer often, if there's a big $ difference between bolted and clip-on Thermalrights, wouldn't it be difficult to justify the extra $ seeing as it wouldn't affect overclocking? (or would it?)

I'm saying this from the point of view of last summer when Thermalright SK-7 was $14.99, it was tough to justify spending twice that much on 900s when tests showed that SK-7 did an excellent job for $15...

Too bad you can't find those for $15 anywhere, any more...
