Is the 7600GT 10-15% faster than the 6600GT, to justify the $50 more pricetag? I'm going to get the eVga card, dunno which to get, on paper the 7600GT has more power of course, but again, does it perform THAT MUCH better than the 6600GT to justify another $50? im not looking to build a leet machine to show off, i just gotta get rid of this 5700 (using it ever since the 6800 died), oblivion kills it... sure i get 40ish fps with a massively tweaked config, but it looks like crap =D. Remember, i'm going to be overclocking too, so if i overclock the snot out of the 6600GT would it perform near the 7600GT stock? These are also the only 2 cards im interested in, so dont bother mentioning anything else unless it's the same price; 6600GT = CAD$171, 7600GT = CAD$221.

So ya, which one? Also keep in mind $50 = like 7 hours of work at my min wage job @ Macs. I should also mention, incase anyone is confused, the mobo i have now is AGP, but i am upgrading to a pcie mobo and im looking at the pcie 6600/7600. Hope this made some sense... i've been up for a long time.. gotta stay up late tonight because i work night shift tomorrow, 11pm-7am.. yay.

I would deffinitly go for the 7600GT, they oc pretty good and youll get a lot more fps in game.

7600 is a good card, but then again its likely you can find a used 6600GT for next to nothing on ebay, so I'm not so sure.

i think it's definitely worth it. i had a radeon X800, 12 pipe card at 415/440, better than a 6600GT, and the 7600 is a drastic improvement. 6600GT is way past its prime, can't really recommend it anymore. in some game benchmarks the 7600 gets 2x the fps as the 6600

i play oblivion @ 1280x960 w/HDR and all is well in the world :D

that's hard to believe :eh?:

in CSS my oc'd 6600GT

The 7600GT is far more than 10-15% faster than the 6600GT.

Heres a link to some benchmarks:
http://www.beyond3d.com/previews/nvidia/g73/

For Quake4 for example at 1280x1024 4xFSAA 8xAF 7600 GT pulls 54.1 fps, 6600 GT pulls 26.7 fps. Thats 102% improvement.

FEAR 1280x960 53fps for the 7600GT 31fps for the 6600 GT 71% improvement.

In conclusion, the 7600GT is leaps and bounds faster than the 6600GT, and well worth the $50.

it still holds up well in current games, but i wouldn't want one for oblivion.. my x800 was struggling pretty badly w/no AA at 1024x768...

Just installed, for a friend, an Evga 7600GT (not the superclock) it OCed far past the superclocks stock speeds. He wanted it to play Oblivian, and let me tell you, it looked beautiful! I have a 7800GTX, now I'm wondering why... not seriously. But wow!

how far did it go? i got the CO edition, but it came stock at 600/780 :p

somwhere around 620/800 if I remember correctly. I think the memory went higher maybe. But, that was with the stock cooling, if you can call it that, and I was just letting forceware find the optimal settings. So I believe it could have gone much further.

Good post. I was wondering the same thing... I will definitely grab a 7600 GT.. By the way, you can get the EVGA 7600 GT card for $170 (plus some rebates I believe) on Pricegrabber.

Here is the link ->

Thanks, but pricegrabber is american, no? I live in canada, i use www.ncix.com for all my purchases, bout the best prices i've found in canada.

Thanks to everyone for all the input, seems the 7600GT is considerably better than the 6600GT, making it worth the extra $50, so i will be getting that instead.

Cheers,
- Neil
