ok i'm trying to decide between these two cards, i was thinking an 8600GTS but figured the 50 buck difference for a 8800 was worth it but i don't think i can justify a $50 increase for 320mb increase if they are similar performance wise

Standard questions apply: What resolution do you play at, and what's your budget?

budget isn't an issue so much and for rez that i usually play in 1152x854 but i'm getting a 22" WS Samsung so that is going to be changing...

I've got the 8800GTS 640mb and i luv it. Runs evrything on my 22" Samsung @ 1680x1050 with zero issues.

Best bang for the buck are the new 8800GT's and the new 8800GTS 512mb (G92)cards. If money isn't an issue, then go for the GTS 512mb card. Better performance over it's 640mb version.

You DO NOT want to spend money on a new 8800GTS 320 or 640.
Unless you can get a used one for <$170 get a 8800GT which will outperform both cards by far, the GT's are selling at around $250-$280 new and you can pick up a used one for as low as $220, search the forums.

if you have the money get the 8800GTS 512 for ~$300-$330

get either a 8800gt or a 8800gts 512mb. there is no reason at all to buy a 320 or 640

Yeah, either the 8800GT (G92) 512 or a 8800 GTS (G92) 512

E-Tailers are going to be having a hard time getting rid of their GTS 320-640 stock...

Unfortunately this is true... I purchased an 8800GTS 640MB back in June and now... well... guess it's technology right?

Unless they drop prices.

It's still worth getting the older GTS for <200, though. It's what I did :D
