It's September of 2023, and we finally have our next PCIe 5.0-based M.2 storage module for review. ADATA was kind enough to send the Legend 970 in 1TB flavor. The new drive utilizes a Phison E26 controller with speeds listed up to a blistering fast 10,000 MB/s on reads and writes (2 TB version) and comes with its own heatsink and active cooling to help prevent throttling. Read on to see the specifications and see how the 1 TB performed in our test suite.

Whats with all these gen5 nvme only getting to 10k reads? Shouldn't the read speed be more than that? Or is this what we should expect for now from lackluster brands?

Some go up to 12.5-12.8k (Crucial, Corsair, Team Group), but it depends on the firmware and SSD design. Controllers are all the same Phison E26. Random bandwidth is almost the same on all of these SSDs. It's only sequential bandwidth which is different.

ADATA may not be the top brand, but it has kept relatively high quality for years. They look pretty good, especially when you compare quality to the price. There are always issues with some single products, and every manufacturer has problems from time to time. The main difference between most brands is how their support reacts and what they offer to solve the issue.
