I have been running Intel for a while now, and I want to make an upgrade. I currently have asus ProQ turbo motherboard, Sapphire Radeon 5870, Dominator ddr2 1066 memory, and Q9550 processor with EO stepping I want to upgrade to a 955/965be, an Asus Crosshair iii motherboard, and Corsair dominator gt ddr3 memory.
I just have a few questions for the AMD experts. I have been reading that there are problems with the Asus Crosshair iii mb getting ddr3 memory to run at 1600mhz, is this true? Also would you guys expect much gains in gaming/3d benchmarking compared to my current set up? I have oc experience with Intel is AMD more difficult? What do you think the best A3 build for Ocing and gaming would be for around 700? thank you.

:welcome: to OCF!

I don't know about problems running 800 MHz with the Crosshiar III - I think it may be more a matter of experience and what hardware is used. Not all RAM is created equal ... ;)

No problem here. my 1600 c9 ripjaws went right up to 1800 with no sweat and a little past (fail after about 1840 I did not try tweaking it though)

AMD in general is not good at getting top speed mem, but you can tune it. And I have heard people say leave it on the 1333 divider and use HTREF To clock it up to 1600 if you want it to run 1600 at super tight timings. My RAM is c9 though and I had no problem running it C8 wit ha .1v increase. C7 was not doable in the 5 minutes I took to try it.
