app for making a movie

i have photos and avchd files in mts format, i wanted to make a dvd for the folks and i know how to use premier, but just wanted something simple to use both jpgs and mts files and add music.... any prog to look for free or, achem easily available out there?

I haven't utilized the built-in windows movie maker, but does it let you open those formats?

If Windows Movie Maker lets you do it, Id use that.. simple.
