Maybe the Abit IP35-E will suit your needs

or the IP35 Dark Raider version.

IMO you should look for a case without a PSU and get that seperately. "Came with the case" power supplies tend to be of a lower quaility - except for the Antec Sonata 3.

I think the Corsair PSU's are currently one of the best bang for the buck options.

JLK03F150

That then goes over budget, i have 500 to get everything except OS

Want it quad core, 2gig ram, 500gig hd at minimum...

I'm not sure if all of it works together do you know if those peices work together?

Correct me if im wrong but the ram what i found doesnt work with them boards....

all that will work but usually cases with powersupply are bad and tend to blow up :)

but all those parts will work and with a pc like that i would look into a new psu :)

if anything look for DDR2 800 ram to lower the price on ram and put towards a better psu or what not you will regret it when those ****ty psu burn out and take ur pc with it

BUt what about my budget it goes over... by long way.

also the ram i chose was pc2-8500, 1066MHz this board says: Supports Dual channel DDR2 800/667/533 un-buffered non-ECC memory

If you plan on overclocking, you'll need a better power supply. Even if you're only running stock, do you really want to trust £480 of parts with a £20 case & PSU? The Sonata case is kinda plain Jane, but comes with a nice PSU. The Corsair 450 & a really inexpensive case is another option. It will probably still make you go over budget, but it'll save you some big headaches down the road.

IMO you could go with PC2-6400 RAM to save a few £££. There is pretty much no performance difference between DDR800 @ 4-4-4 vs DDR1066 @ 5-5-5.

I haven't checked to see if the PC8500 works with the IP35. It doesn't offically support that speed, but I didn't think most boards offically support PC8500.

Its not for me its for brother a christmas pressie... so he wont be overclocking its just a normal computer may play some games...

If it won't be overclocked there is certainly no need for PC8500. You could even go as low as PC5300 to save even more £££. That would still be running a 4:5 CPU:RAM ratio. PC6400 will run a 2:3 CPU:RAM ratio.

FSP Fortron makes a good inexpensive PSU, but I just don't know any UK sites that carry them. There is an affordable 400w with two 18amp +12volt rails (another with a +12v 16a & 18a is good too). Sorry, I'm not gonna say that the £20 case & PSU will be fine. lol Here's the PSU, sorry for the newegg link.

EDIT: Gosh, I type slow. lol Your new PSU is showing one 13amp +12v rail which is under powered for the quad core & 8600.
EDIT2: The Hiper is supposed to be a good model.

I can't find an IDE listed in the spec for the IP35, so you'll need to use a SATA DVD-RW.
https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Com...AL+20x+DVDRW/RAM+Black+-+SATA?productId=28969

Q6600, Retail w/ HSF
Abit IP25 Dark Raider (no IDE ports, but 6 SATA ports)
2x1GB Corsair PC6400 4-4-4-12
8600GT 256MB PCIe x16
500GB HDD SATA2 16MB buffer
LG DVD-RW SATA
MIDI Tower case
Hiper 435watt PSU

I gotta say, you're one really nice brother - what a great gift. :)

there is IDE via the Jmicron controler on the ip35-e/ip35/ip35-pro boards.
