vote for the ASUS, great board. Does have some SATA2 hard drive compatability problems. If you do go with that one swap to a Seagate drive for best compatability

Looks good but i duno what u mean with the hard drives

EDIT: £40 over budget.... can u help lower price but keep pc good...

The ASUS P5K Premium has compatability issues with the firmware on some harddrives, only Seagate seems immune.
You could save some cash by winding back a bit on drive space, does he really need 500Gb?
Also swap the processor to the E6750, quads are nice (i do rather like mine ) but not really necessary right now

i would go ahead and get the original hdd you linked to.the onus is on asus.if it doesnt play well with the hdd get it replaced.
