My freind has a Compaq Proliant (I think it is a 1600), anyway it's a backplane design, and the proc and mem is all on one card....Are most of these single board computer cards compatible with all backplane designs?
In other words can I replace the P166 card with edo mem to a P4 or c2d card with ddr, or ddr2?
The old Proliant is still fast for an old P166, and the scsi hotswap raid array is really cool.
I don't have any experience with backplanes, and it wouldn't be too much of an investment to replace the processor, as the server was free.
Any thoughts? suggestions?
