Hello, I have an Acer RS780HVF Motherboard, Chipset AMD 780G.
My PC is an OEM PC.
currently I have a "AMD Phenom(tm) 9150e Quad-Core Processor 1.80GHz
A ATI Radeon HD 5750 GPU (This was an Upgrade from the onboard ATI HD 3200 gpu) and 4GB RAM.

And this is any files/manuals that you might need to check:
http://support.acer.com/us/en/product/default.aspx?tab=1&modelId=348
http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/desktop/2010/acer/Aspire/AspireM3201/AspireM3201nv.shtml

I've updated my BIOS to the latest here is a CPU-Z picture

And my current CPU is AM2+ and I believe AM3 cpus support AM2+ right?

So I researched and asked around and was told that the AMD Phenom II 960T X4 would work. So I got it today and on start up it said
CPU Mismatch Detected!
So I put my old CPU back in.

So I wanted to know if the AMD Phenom II X4 850 Would work
http://www.byhunt.co.uk/tech/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=32059

Example where 850/960T was suggested to work:

So do you think the 850 will definitely work? And should the 960T have worked :S?

Thanks for your time.

Edit: In this forum post he used the Phenom II for that motherboard and on the motherboard specs it dsays AMD Phenom[tm] and doesn't say Anything like AMD Phenom II.
http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=591256

This is exactly said for my motherboard too.
"Processor1 AMD LIVE!™:
AMD Phenom™ X4 quad-core processor
AMD Phenom™ X3 triple-core processor
AMD Athlon™ X2 dual-core processor
AMD Athlon™ processor
AMD Sempron™ processor"

Your manual, or Acer should be able to tell you which CPU's will work for certain.

After you received that message, did you continue on to the bios, and in to windows to see if it reported right? Rebooted? Or did you panic and just swap it?

Well It said CPU Mismatch Detected! and then nothing happened. It wouldn't continue.

ALso Acer have horrible support when i ring, they refer me to other numbers which do not give me details or anything.

I guess it's because this pc was bought a while ago and is out of warranty to them. When i ask about what supports they say we can't provide these details.. -_-

Also I found this forum post, http://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=138304.0
Seems to have a similar issue and when i look at his board specs its AM2/Am2+ just like mine and he's installing a much newer CPU than mine. So mine must work... :S

Shall i try clearing the CMOS? I can't really find any buttons or such to clear it via the board so shall i restart my PC do factory reset on bios, then power it down after saving and install CPU?

Thanks for ur time.

Edit: Rang acer again and they just told me it supports AMD Phenom and AMD Athlon X2... =/ Doesn't really help. They didn't know what exact CPU's would or would not work..

Phenom and Athlon X2 are not the same as Phenom II and Athlon II, I know that the am2+ socket is supposed to be compatible but its very likely your motherboard does not how to read the cpu id and deal with it.

Would it be worth factory resetting the bios and then shutting it down and trying again :S?
I'll try constantly tap the bios settings key [delete] to see if it lets me get into that. ;x

Edit: And I'd expect it to work as on this thread someone has a AMD Athlon II X4

Sorry man but I doubt any Phenom II proc will work in that board.

And that guy has a AM3 socket (only has x2 cores not x4 btw)

You have a AM2+ socket

I had an AM2+ board and tried to run an Athlon II AM3 proc in it but the board just couldn't id it..even with a bios update. AM3 procs are supposed to be backwards compatible with AM2+ sockets in theory..but like ssjwizard said, that's not always the case. And believe me I looked everywhere I could trying to find some kind of validation to justify that if I tinkered with it long enough it WOULD work lol. Never did. Just had to buy a AM3 mobo for 60 bucks & upgraded to ddr3 mem in the process. Bonus!
