Hi,

Before disposing of my external hard drive I'd like to destroy the platter (I had bank account details on there before it died).

This may be the dumbest question ever (apologies if it is, I'm strictly a software person!) but do I need to worry about getting a shock from a residual charge, or anything like that?

None of the 'How To's elsewhere on the net mentions this but the disk has a warning sticker so I thought I'd consult the hardware experts here before taking a hammer to it.

Thanks in advance.

Nell

Or just drill holes in it. Either way wear eye protection and have a blast destroying it.
