well, at my local computer store these cpu cost exactly the same price $87 AUD, now these cpu's are pretty much the only ones in my price range lol..

so yeah acording to this review : http://www.amdzone.com/modules.php?...s&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=283&page=1 the AMD clocked at 3.0ghz is just a tiny bit better than a FX 62.

according to this review : http://www.hothardware.com/Articles/Intel_Pentium_E2140_Dual_Core_Processor/ the e2140 clocked at 2.9ghz is neck and neck with an E6600.

so um i dunno which one to choose... help?

oh and the set up's will be

x2 4000+
Asus M2NE-sli
2 gig ram
8800 320mb
or

e2140
Gigabyte P35-S3L
2 gig ram
8800 320mb

I personally would have to choose the e2140, I have heard a lot of people mentioning they are good overclockers. For example here is a link to a page on these forums, the person got the cpu up to 3.0ghz on stock voltage.

Stock = 4000+.
4000+ will offer you a lot at stock clocks. Also, 4000+ is $50 at newegg.
If you overclock, e2140 without a second thought. Those things have proven to overclock like mad, and they die much less.

Only ppl in the US can use Newegg. I wish they would wake up and smell the lost profits
@ op get the intel setup ten if you get some more cash a year or so from now you could drop a quad in and be supper happy =)

I like my 2160 a lot. Getting a C2D also gives you room to go up to something bigger and better without any hassle. You can upgrade to something with more cache or a quad core when the prices come down. Socket 775 actually has a future. :)

Mine does 3.4GHz at 1.5125v. It did 3.2GHz at near stock volts, so you shouldn't have any trouble.

AMD also has a future mind you. =P AMD will not be changing platform persay... but the newer motherboards will have extra little things like pci-e 2.0. Skt 775 dies after penryn while AMD will have AM2+ and AM3 but the cpus are all backwards compatible.

Personally, i have a E2140 with a S3L and 2 gigs of ocz system elites and have gotten 2.9ghz with less than stock volts on a tuniq tower.

I'd recommend the E2140.

You beat me to it -- you can't upgrade to a much better AMD so a 775 board is the best choice :p
