Fast Forwarding Video Always a Delay

I often use the arrow keys on my keyboard to skip through video (foward or reverse) 5 seconds at a time but there is always a pause where the video is trying to catch up to the sound. My hardware is definitely not lacking any idea what could be causing this.. drivers perhaps?

Have you tried other software? What are you using now?

MPC Star (Tiger Player) and VLC but I have the issue with both.
