Generic motherboard - processor compatibility

I would avoid that one, if I were going to spend $150+ on a seven year old chipset I'd look around a bit more. With a 'brand-name' motherboard at least you can check the manufactorer's website for memory QVL list, CPU compatibility, drivers, BIOS update, etc.

CPU support: LGA2011, I7 Serial /E5-V1/E5-V2, I7 39xx serial/ E5-16XX E5-26XX E5-46XX serial processors

Those are Xeon processors: https://ark.intel.com/products/series/59138/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E5-Family

That doesn't mean that your i7 4820K wouldn't work, however.

thank you Tim for your quick response. I did try to find a known brand name motherboard but it has been difficult to find one. I found a used one on ebay but not sure if a second one is better than this new one?

thanks again...

Your i7 4820K is a socket FCLGA2011, the newer LGA 2011-v3 motherboards aren't backwards compatible with FCLGA2011 CPUs, so check specs closely.

Here is a good reference regarding LGA 2011 CPUs and motherboard compatibility: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGA_2011

Edit Your 17 4820K "should be" compatible with the ebay motherboard, if the listing description is accurate. See this Intel Compatibility list.

Good find. aliexpress.com has done a good job of flooding Google search results with retail selling hits for "Reboto X79Z-VB10". Not finding a mfr's product page for it, though.
