SOLVED HDMI Audio Driver install Fail - no HD Audio, any way manual HDMI driver install

Under Windows 8 64-bit, all versions of Catalyst report HDMI Audio Driver Final Status: Fail. I get no HD audio, only non-HD audio through the HDMI port.

The system is dual boot so exactly the same system/drivers have no problems under Windows 7 - only Windows 8 cannot install HDMI w/o failure and consequently I get no HD audio under Windows 8. Everything is OK with HD audio under Windows 7. Is there a different way to manually install the HDMI driver under Windows 8?

When installing Catalyst drivers under Windows 8, in case of HDMI Audio Driver Final Status: Fail


Go to Control Panel > Sound > Playback TAB >
Right click on Digital Audio (HDMI) 2 - High Definition Audio Device > Properties > Properties button >

Driver TAB > Update Driver... button > Browse my computer for driver software > Browse >


For the example of Catalyst 13.1 driver, after unpacking AMD Catalyst drivers, the location of HDMI driver for Windows 8 is:

C:\AMD\Support\13-1_vista_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql\Packages\Drivers\WDM\HDMI\
