Just putting together a new rig. Settled with the ASrock X77 Extreme 4, i5 3570k. Now it's just RAM.

Have been out of the loop since DDR2, but have narrowed it down to these choces:

G.Skill RipjawsX F3-14900CL9D-8GBXL

G.SKILL Ripjaws X 1600:

Corsair Vengeance CMZ8GX3M2A1600C8

I mostly use my computer for games, a bit of video encoding, movies.

I hope to get the CPU up to 4.2Ghz. Nothing too serious.

Would the difference in 1600 to 1866mhz be noticeable? And I notice the Corsair have the lowest timings, and am I correct in saying the lower timings would give a more "snappier" feeling?

Out of those 3, what would you go for?

Thanks!

The Ripjaws 1866. Even with those if you were to drop it down to 1600 in the bios you would end up with the same timings as the Corsairs (the ripjaws are at CAS 9 at 1866 while the vengeance are at CAS 8 at 1600). For example I have the sniper series 2133 with CAS 11 (but I run it at 10). The profile for 1866 in bios has CAS 9 if I remember correctly (haven't looked at it in a while).

Personally I'd go for the cheapest. Once you hit 1600 you'd be hard pressed to ever feel the difference. I couldn't tell the difference (outside of benchmarks) in my 1600 9-9-9-24 G.skills and my 2000 8-8-8-24 Supertalents.

Thanks for the replies, I found an Anandtech article comparing DDR3 speeds, and out of the ones I listed, I think I'll grab Rip Jaws 1600 and saw the extra $$ on other things.
