[HELP] Mobile P4 / P4M / Desktop P4

Hey all


okay - i did some searching but did not really find what i think i was looking for


I have a chance to get a

Intel Mobile Pentium 4 3.06ghz - 512kb cache


chip for about $100


what is the significant difference of this chips to the other P4 line of chips?

Is this chip socket 478?

Yes it is s478 - I used to have a 3.06 1.3v Pentium 4 Mobile.

It will default to 12x multi in a desktop board so get something (board/RAM) capable of at least 300FSB for 3.6ghz.

NO HT so no good for me. I still have a 2.2m C1 running 200x12 on a P4B-533E as my video editing machine though..prehistoric by todays standards...

Also Mr G - I could not get my P4M to boot over 185FSB in an 865/875 board, until I did the 200FSB BSEL mod

mmm - it would likely go into my P4P800 board that i have here - i would think it could handle it.... maybe,....


so with the 12x multi - it will have the 533FSB on the chip.....


i have a ram divider so would pc3200 do or would i have to grab some DDR500 or DDR530 what ever it is?

Yes MrG at default it will boot 12x133=1.6ghz, 12x200 will give you 2.4ghz etc Your P4P may handle it but you may find a wall at 185FSB, maybe not. If you do then the BSEL mod will sort that (insulate 1 pin)

If you aim for 300FSB (3.6ghz) with DDR at 5:4 u will need DDR450 or 3:2 DDR400

mmm - seems like a alot of hassle

the chip is sitting @ $86 right now but the chance of me getting it to run @ 3ghz seems slim - unless i want to do this mod.

Think i may skip on this chance...... ?
