Hello new member here and not to pc friendly.
I have a question perhaps someone can answer for me.

I need to get a video card for a game. It says min. card should be a
http://www.nvidia.com/page/geforce_7600.htmlNvidia GeForce 7600GS

I would like to be able to just go to like BestBuy and buy something that is compatible and im also working on a budget.
Can someone tell me if this card is at least the same spec wise?
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/galaxy-...8674048398&skuId=5620358&st=nvidia&cp=1&lp=12

thanks

Im unsure of the name of the game as its one for my son. Ill check and let you know when I talk to him later on. The above though is what it had said though for min. requirments.
-Rez played at: Not sure, I dont play games and am just doing this so he can play his game. Its a kids game, no serious gaming going on. How do I check this?
-Budget would be less than 100.

Just something enough to be able to use it.
Thanks again

You can blow away a 7600 GS even with a $100 dollar budget and bestbuy options.

What's the rest of the specifications for the computer the video card is going into?

I am not really sure what you mean by a kids game, so the actual name is important.

Specs are:
AMD Athlon IIX3 445 3.10ghz
Biostar A770E3
8 gig mem

Kid game. I briefly looked at it was legos something or other, for a ten year old. He is not here at the moment and its with him, so when I get it back, will let you know.

So will the link I posted for the 45 dollar card at best buy, is it at least equivalent? I dont want to put nothing into this system as im thinking of replacing it in the near future. Just enough so he can play it for now.

Thanks

Oops I didn't see that you already had picked one out. I would get something a little stronger than that card.

Maybe this one http://www.bestbuy.com/site/pny-gef...=5594282&st=categoryid$abcat0507002&cp=1&lp=3

You need to make sure with these cards that your PSU has enough power, ~350W

That game doesn't seem to be very intensive so I believe something that the card I selected would run it OKAY. I would like to know what he is using for that game right now first though. What is he playing the game on that lets you know he needs a better card?

Thanks for the help Twiggz.

He is not using the game yet, as I looked at it and seen the min requirments so didnt bother to install it. But plan on getting the card this weekend so he can play it.

The power supply is 400.
The reason I asked if the card I posted would be fine is it was in stock at my local bestbuy and want to grab it prior to the weekend versus ordering.
Ill see if the one you say is in stock.

looks like the 610 is better, reading the specs.
what I found with our grandson was that he was distracted by the card fan noise while playing angry birds on my bigger cards to the point he would put his hands over his ears so we resorted to a machine that had onboard video.

Ok great. Thank you very much for all the help.

One last question.

The card that I have now is very old 25omb card as was installed just to support dual screens. The plugs are the same as on the 610, so its safe to say I can still have both?

Sorry for all the questions

You can likely run both monitors off a single cad... no need for two.

You check the resolution of the monitor by right clicking on the desktop and select change resolution. It should show there where you are at.

Maybe I am missing something but I just fail to see how the 610 is better than the 630.

At any rate glad to help billyx99

I'd highly recommend doing a quick search to see if any Best Buys in your area have a Galaxy GT 640 GC in stock. Though it's listed for $89 on the website, most stores have it priced around $75. The 640 is a much more advanced card, and for a few dollars less it will be around double the speed of the GT 630 while running considerably cooler and quieter. If you're unable to find it in a store nearby and can bear a few days' wait for shipping, you can buy it direct for $69 from our online store:

I've used the GT 640 GC myself it's a great card for the money. Plus, should you ever need help with any Galaxy card I'm an official rep and I'm always just a pm away.

Hi Guys back with a question.
I changed things a bit. Im not putting the card in the machine I stated(im going to upgrade that machine I think, will ask for opinions in a new post). Im going to give the kid his own pc to use. so...

I installed this card,...https://www3.pny.com/GT-610-1024MB-PCIe-P3186C523.aspx

into this machine http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01570952&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en

I had an old, forget brand, 512 mb card in the system I was using. I put the new card in, run the cd get to the end and get " can't find compatible graphics hardware".
I also downloaded drivers for card from pny , got the same thing.

The computer doesnt seem to see the card. Should I go in bios and change it? Currently in bios its set to onboard vid. Device manger doesnt show card.

I would think the pc can run the card. The slot is good as I had a different card in it. Any help getting it going would be great.

I got the card working.
Changed bios setting to pci. Now to try the game.
