HI guys,

I have a problem with my notebook, its a Asus N61J.
My RAM memory is between 40-60% when its idle on Windows 7.
The strange thing is is that my CPU is between 2-5% when idle.

I already tried to disable "Superfetch" in services. Well that worked for just 2% or something. I ran Nod32 for a scan on my system for malware but nothing came out. And also ran Advances Systemcare.

Here is a DXdiag log for you guys hopeful you know a answer for this.

If it does not slow down my notebook that much i wont care about it but it does :(

Thank you guys!

a pic of task manager would be a better help then dxdiag.

THat chrome.exe does not look good right? i found it at myself but could not find a solution i also tried a problem that must fix that but it does not.

I suspect you have a whole lot of bloatware running in the background. Open msconfig, click on the "startup" tab and disable everything you don't need. Reboot the computer and you should see a big difference.

Thank you that helped a bit :)
The notebook is now idle with 33-35% RAM but aint that still much?
And with google chrome open its hitting almost 50% thats 10-15% more!

The only things on startup is now my anti-virus (nod32) and the system care program.

With 4GB of RAM, 33-35% isn't anything I would personally worry about, and I think it's normal to expect that.

You probably don't even need that "system care" program running, all you need to boot with the OS is the OS itself ("Microsoft Windows Operating System") and your anti virus software. Don't touch the services tab in msconfig unless you really know what you're doing.

It's not unusual for your web browser to use a lot of RAM.

+1 to SMOKEU

Most laptops have a bunch of bloatware installed on them.
You should be able to disable most of the startup stuff without a problem.
It's one of the first things I do when I setup a laptop for the first time.

And yes, google chrome can use quite a bit of ram. It's using around 600MB right now for me, peaking at around 1GB at times.

Click the "show all processes" button in the bottom left of Task Manager, then arrange by memory usage.

Then you will now what it using the most ram.

That only shows a small amount of the actual memory usage. There have been many times where I've had several GB of RAM unaccounted for, and it doesn't show up in taskmgr.exe.

How did you know, and what did you do to find out what was using it?

The windows task manager has always tallied up with process explorer for me, and both have been accurate.

When task manager says that a certain amount of RAM is being used, yet those processes add up to less than half of the reported memory usage according to taskmgr, then something else is using up that RAM.

Services will also be using up a certain amount of RAM, but sometimes a few GB disappear with no obvious cause.

I can see your thinking behind that, and it seems logical.

But I've never seen it happen and i have to disagree with the whole "I randomly lose GBs of ram"
If something is using the ram I have always been able to find out what is eating up by using either windows taskmanager or process explorer.

It doesn't just vanish.

If you don't believe me then I can tell you how you can make it happen. Run chkdsk and then see where all that RAM is going.

Oh wow!!!!

I ran chkdsk, i watched the process use the ram then release it.

Dude, you are wrong, and I have read your thread where you are banging on about it.
That was never resolved because there was nothing to resolve in the first place.
I think you just dont understand it correctly and you are getting pagefile usage mixed up in the whole equation.

Anyways, @ the op
The two applications i have mentioned will tell you exactly what is using your ram.

It was never resolved because I could never find out WHAT exactly was using that RAM. If I could get the NAME of the process or service using that RAM then that's all I wanted to know. I'm guessing you probably don't have any clue either what or why that was happening. Anyway, let's not hijack someone elses thread.

if you want to see how much is being used for what. in task manager, i think applies to vista and newer. go to the performance tab and click on resource monitor, windows for some reason has about 1gb set aside or in standby. if running 32bit os with 4gb, then you have to remember that the ram on the video card needs to be addressed as well. for me being in 32bit win7, i have 4gig ram, 3gig windows can use, 1gig hw reserved for the video card. now i just got a 2gb video card so i have more of a need to go 64bit with 4gb ram and the card.
