I'm trying to take screenshots from my Galaxy Tab3 8.0. Everything I've read says to press the power and home buttons together. When I try this it just returns to the home screen. I'm running Android 4.2.2

Yes. I also tried the volume buttons, which I read was the method on an older software version.
I emailed the Samsung support site, no reply as yet.
Is there something within the settings I should change to allow it take screenshots?

In settings under Motion / Palm swipe to capture.

Turn it on, then take the edge of your hand (side of your pinky finger down to your wrist), and slide it from one side of the screen to the other. If you aren't sure, try the "Learn about hand motions" to see how it's done.
