I had given up on Facebook. Someone managed to use its system against me be making multiple request to reset my password. So I eventually decided to live without it.

But I begrudgingly found that Facebook can be a useful tool to make contact with people to discuss a variety of technologies. So I decided to give it another try and I was able to give Facebook authentication in the form of a camera shot of my ID. They sent me a link to reset my password.

Now, here is the issue I am having. I am able to use my email to authenticate but I have a problem with Facebook when it comes to receiving text messages. For some reason, I am completely unable to receive text messages from Facebook on my Android phone.

I am not sure if this is a Facebook issue or an Android phone issue. I am able to get text phone notification from other platforms. The only one I have a problem with is Facebook.

For some reason, I have three apps on my Android device.
I have this one:

which leads to this screen

and it does not go anywhere when I click the button.
I have this one:

which leads to this screen

and it does not go anywhere when I click the button.
But then there is this one:
05.png

which leads to this screen:

and then I am able to view my text messages. I am thinking that I should remove the other two apps. What do you think? What are some steps I can take to fix my issue?

:welcome:

Android Facebook has 2 separate apps, the main one to browse and a second to text (+ the light versions), these 3 are the only ones you should be using? Make sure they are all from the same company, if not, delete them 🤷🏻‍♂️

EDIT: didn't notice the 1st icon was the Android messaging app, my bad, don't delete that one 😂 but I do advise to get rid of the other ones if you don't use them or they don't work as advertised. And as Earthdog stated below, Facebook (as far as I know) doesn't do text messaging, the messenger app is for Facebook contacts only 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yeah, those aren't Facebook apps. Those are text messaging apps.

Are you trying to receive Facebook notifications (through FB app), Facebook IMs (through FB Messenger app), or 'traditional' texts (one of the three apps you listed)???

The (top two) apps kenrou listed are what you need for Facebook. I only use one traditional texting app, Messages (bottom icon in first post).

Of the apps listen by the OP, the first one is Google Messenger. The second is the default messages app in Android. The last one is Samsung Messages app. You can remove the Samsung and the Google messengers but the default messenger(the second on the list) cannot be removed. The screens you were sent to were to set each app as the default text messenger. To use the text messenger you must choose one as default. Once set all text messages(NOT Facebook messages) will be handled by the chosen app. I personally use Google Messenger for general texting. I don't use the Facebook Messenger app on my mobile as to me its eats battery life.

PS: The text apps I described will not handle facebook texts. You must use FB Messenger to handle FB messages.
