Hello everyone, been on overclockers for a while browsing but never thought i'd need to join till today. Ok so lets hope you can help me

I build a budget pc for my dad for his 60th, total cost $560, heres the components:

CPU: AMD am3+ fx6100

motherboard: AsRock 970DE3/U3S3

ram: patriot ddr3 1333 8 gig ram kit

graphics card: sapphire HD 6670

psu: antec eco neo 450w

500gig 7200rpm hdd

liteon dvd drive

Bought all these components from msy in australia

So i got to building it today, i done what i always do, frequently and often touch the case to de-static myself, placed in the cpu with the arrow parts facing the right way, no pressure when installing it just slipped right in, installed the heatsink fan making sure to have not touched the top of the cpu then installed the ram, video card, installed it into the tower on the standoffs and completed a test boot, everything started up on it (meaning the cpu fan and the video card fan started running), but there was no beep and no post......

So i removed it from the tower, and done a test on the box, still the same thing, tried switching the speaker plug around incase i had it in wrong, still nothing, then tested it with the onboard video card, still the same no beep and no post, tried doing 1 ram stick at a time and alternating rams also and still nothing, tried with no ram or video card or video plugged in to atleast get a beep and still nothing, tried the speaker on a different computer and its fine and tried another and still nothing, removed the cpu to check that non of the pins where damaged or bent, everything is fine and dandy there so i reinstalled, tried again and still the same thing, also tried a different monitor too.....

My dad's really disappointed and i feel like **** cause ive let the bugger down. Have i missed anything? is it time to go start breaking some noses at msy for ruining my old mans 60th.... I have to drive 1 1/2 hours just to get there so i want to make sure im not waisting my time because i have to take time out of my day to do this and im not gonna be happy when i get there either.

btw i also tried connecting up two fans and the dvd drive to the power supply, then fans ran and the dvd drive can open and close so im guessing that if the power supply was buggered it wouldnt do this

Have you connected the 4/8 pin CPU power connector? The motherboard won't work without that. Make sure that the 24 pin and the CPU power connector are firmly seated.

Have you reset the CMOS settings? Beyond that, you've tried everything that I would before returning it.

I have the 8 pin connected in which is next to the cpu, tried removing it and resetting it in there also done the same with the 24 pin connector to make sure there in correctly..... I havnt yet reset the cmos thats the last thing i have got to try which i might try now......

like thideras said, make sure all power connectors to mobo are connected. I also buy at MSY, their customer service is worse than terrible, but original prices at very competitive prices. Never had a major problem with their products.

If you have a multimeter, check the voltage to the mobo pins, if it is faulty then they will exchange it for free

thanks mate, the prices cant be beaten, still dont know how that justifies to there poor customer service..... I will try resetting the cmos, is that dosnt work i will have to take it back on monday dont want to go buy a bloody multimeter just to check if the voltage is right.... if the psu wasnt right would it be able to still run all the fan including 3 case fans and a dvd drive connected up to it????

If the psu gives undervoltage, cpu and gpu wont work, but less power consuming devices like fans and disk drives will work. I can't find your psu on online, but I have antec vp450 for 5x$, and works well.

Yeah i couldnt find it online there either, i went there with intentions to buy the 520w one but they had the 450w which yeah was not on the site but they had in store and it was cheaper too so thats why i grabbed it.... Im going to disconect the 8 pin plugs and the 24 pin plugs from another working computer and hook them upto this one, if it does not work still then its definently dead, will let use know how it goes in the next hour...

So just a small update, i reset the cmos and used a known working power supply with just the cpu and heatsink+fan installed and still the same, no beep, can i confirm that the motherboard is dead????

I ran into the same problem building a PC for a friend, FX-6100, GA-990FXA-UD3 MB
Turned out to be a DEA CPU, before you RMA the MB, test the CPU in another MB if you can. CPU's can be bad.

took it back they tested it and found it to be dead... so i got a new board and a better one too its a asrock 970 extreme3

thanks for the help fellas, i was worried it was my cpu so i took that with me and got them to test the new board with my cpu. Anyway new computer is up and running currently installing the drivers

Good to see you got it working and glad to know your CPU is good but not so for the MB :(, hope you got a good deal on new MB :)

i got $10 off the newer board so i had to fork out another $11, i was just happy i was right about the board being stuffed, got it home, built it, installed windows and all the drivers plus some extra software and gave it to my old man. First thing i done was showed him a blueray video of his favourite movie and he was stoaked at how good the picture quality was, i now fear i have built him the ultimate porn watching machine lol. I killed the build this time round, had it fully built with decent cable management in 20 minutes. Not bad for my second build
