I am looking into upgrading my current PC...
What I am currently using:
Addtronics Server Case 7896A (HEAVY)
Adaptec 29160 Scsi Controller
Enermax 450 Watt PSU
73 GB Maxtor Atlas 15K II HD (boot)
P4 2.4C with DFI board
~1.5GB DDR1 dual channel (2x256+2x512)
2x IDE HDs (no sata)
3x Optical drives (no sata) (Dual Layer DVD Writer+DVD ROM+SCSI PLEXTOR CDRW)
Happauge TV Card
AGP Geforce 6800GT
Carryover to new pc:
Adaptec 29160 with 73GB Atlas 15kII (for boot/storage. additional storage will in the form of external usb 2.0 drives)
Dual Layer DVD Writer
New potential toys from newegg!
$79.99 LIAN LI PC-7SB Aluminum case (suggestions on aluminum cases? all i really know is lian li...)
$64.99 Antec earthwatts EA430 ATX12V v2.0 430W (dont think i need a beefy PSU considering the overclockers.com article regarding how much power we would actually need...is there a cheaper, more efficient PSU??)
$165.50 Intel Core 2 Duo E6320 Conroe 1.86GHz (e4300/4400? e6420? Quad core? Wait until july 22nd??)
$89.99 G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit (should I go for 1066?)
$129.99 GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R
$99.99 EVGA 256-P2-N554-AX GeForce 7600GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card (decent?)
Think I only wanted to allocate about 700$ for upgrades not including ca tax/shipping. I am around ~631$ at the moment...
As one can see, I am trying to cut the 'fat' so to speak and have a light(ie lan party) work and play pc. The objective of the upgraded PC is to stay somewhat behind the bleeding edge curve of technology as I want the most bang for the buck(shown by the new stuff mentioned above) but i would like suggestions on the new items i.e. cpu/mobo/etc. The video card is questionable...i hear good things about the 7600GT but its only DX9 and the 8xxx equivalent is dx10. CPU is questionable as well. I figure use the dual core for 1-2 yrs, then drop in a quad core later on (if its even needed)? Also i was wondering if the lack of dual gpu support will hurt in the long run. I do play a lot of FPS currently but not at extreme 1600x1200 resolutions (more like 1280x960). I also am looking into getting a 20-24' widescreen LCD as well and was looking at the dell 2407FP, Samsung 245BW but they are quite expensive
