I havent wc'd a pc since my ole P4 3.0c back in the day... i was going to wc my i7 920 rig but things came to a halt. im planning on getting a new hawell setup using the Pentium G3258 (unlocked) 53watt TDP. Board, not sure yet, more then likly a mITX board. Going into this case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811815042
or if i got mATX (since im still not sure which FF to go too) i will be getting the CS 350D. For what i need help with, we are going to say im going with the mITX setup.

now im down to 4+1(more on the +1 in a sec) rads:
XSPC RX120
Black Ice Nemesis 120GTX Dual-Core Xtreme
Black Ice Nemesis 120GTS XFLOW
Black Ice Nemesis 120GTS U-Flow
these are listed from thick to thin, last two listed based on thermal load. now im almost ready to discount the Uflow for its 350watt thermal load. though im not sure why i would do that based on its thermal load. more or less guessing that if using the same fans the Xflow would have better temps then the Uflow if all else is the same. still open to other rads, i forgot about the different ones alphacool offers, maybe the UT60/UT45. what im looking for is the best 120x1 rad with low speed/low noise fans.

Now for the +1 above about rads, i still have BIP i havent used or touched. since i got it from the classies, i have no idea how to compare its BTU to watts. For that matter if the testing when done on the BIP is the same used on the latter rads. My current plan, use the helix 120mm pwm fans push/pull and the rad. i need help on rad selection as which will provide best temps possible with a push/pull setup. i do plan on limiting the rpm of the fans to a max around 1400rpm maybe lower. it all depends on how they sound to me when i get this going. i do plan on use those fans unless there is a good reason to go with CS's high static pressure fans.

The WB i plan on using is one i bought for my i7 setup, never used still sealed. since this block is no longer for sale im not sure how its going to compare to others cooling wise. it was originally purchases for not being restrictive, at the time i was looking at wb's. it was one of the least restrictive while still offering good cooling ability. The Enzotech Sapphire wb is what will be used, i still get get barbs, possibly compression fittings in 1/2in. They did release a bracket for LGA1156 and since the mounting holes are the same for LGA1150, it should work with no issues or i hope at least. While i know some are going to post get this wb instead, money is tight so if i can use the wb on hand i will.

The pump, while i know the MCP350/355 is going to be recommend. Price is just to much for me, im looking at getting the Alphacool DC-LT Ceramic pump with the res top to go with it. i also pondered getting the Koolance PMP-300 but then for that price i might as well gone with Phobya 220(oos at performance pcs, where im ordering from). i could go to the 260 but its a bit bigger and not sure how much louder vs the 220. as noted by the review done of 5 pumps on xs, that includes both 220 and 260. the 220 is a very quiet pump, i cant seem to find much info of noise on the DC-LT pump(need to do more digging later).

as far as tubing, i may stick with what i have used in the past which is some Tygon tubing. unless there is another good options for wcing for cheaper? this loop is going to be for the cpu only, the gpu will be passive.

p.s. i cant find any 120mm rad reviews, dont know how to figure temps. how could you figure out temps from 120x2 rad reviews to their 120x1 setups?

cool & cute case , sexy even

however, with the tight space, you'ld probably be better off with an AIO-like solution, unless you really like the challenge to stuff a custom loop inthere or if you are willing to go external and stuff most of it in a pedestal or something :)

I'ld say to look for the CM Eisberg because, unlike most AIO, it uses a COPPER rad (and a "sexy" piezo/ceramic pump).

As for rad reviews... Martins.. & divide the number by 3 maybe ?

I cant recall a lot of 120mm only rad reviews... maybe Stren or Darthbeavis did a few?

I have no time because ive just been told I need to clear my equipment out of a shop in two weeks :rain:

But suggestion would be download my rad stickie put the measurements in the spreadsheet and see what figures come out on single rad.

Hokie tells me the science is still valid...
But my higher function autistic brain has a tiny window of focus and its moved to passive cooled case design soon, theres nothing on the market that meets my needs so im loosely OEM rights involved in getting the Chinese to give me machine and tool costs.

:salute:

i'd rather not go with a aio, if i do it is prolly gonna be a CS H80i tbh. either that if cost gets to out of hand after looking at everything added up. i may just go with a massive hs, like the mugen or the other one from scythe. seems the passive sink market is small and most dont seem that good. read bad things about the zalaman passive tower, then that crazy looking wire hs? wtf you want me to pay how much for some thin copper wire strung out. that can barely keep a stock hs cool...

boby,
your going to have to point me to that link, please. im not even sure where to start looking for that.

after looking over at that round up on 360 rads, i got it narrowed down to two now. Either going with a ST30 or XT45 rads, after some reading on that case,i might be switching. though the other two cases i would be looking at in the same price range, the 250D and the LL Q08B. Dont seem much better in a their own way, so i might have to go with a mATX setup instead.

hmm, well i got a bit of time. since i dont plan on buying the motherboard for a bit, just hope its comes with a bios that supports the G3258, other wise im SOL.

right but considering the two boards im looking at. according to their bios section, they got it in the next bios update. If i get one with out the microcode for the cpu then it wont boot up. unless things have changed with the new bios system that it will boot and allow me to flash to a newer bios.
intel says bios 1.3
http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z97M OC Formula/?cat=Download&os=BIOS
asrock says support in bios 1.4, their cpu support list doesnt even list the G3258.
second board, intel says support in bios 1.0
http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z97E-ITXac/?cat=Download&os=BIOS
asrock says bios 1.3, same thing as the other board the G3258 isnt listed in the cpu support page. kinda hard to believe intel, i would imagine that the cpu support list wont be updated till the actual release date. considering how much stock newegg might have of either board, the longer i wait. the higher the chances of me getting a board with a newer bios on it.

Ahh I see :)

Brace for highly unstable bios then.

Well lets hope some legacy system works around wrong bios flavour.

Someone will find out before you no doubt. :D

Edit: something weird going on with my log in, I think some *** may have hacked me. Off to Google to see whos been logging into my email. Only place they could have got my forum pass :sly: Grrr!

Err... I was gonner say they'll be a million please help posts if bios is an issue.
Back later when I have made things secure.... :sly: Grrr wooof!

Later...

Yep hacked 12 may from north anston... Im coming south to beat your ***!

I have a pretty good idea which companies done this mutha freakin humpers!
