From my experience he would need close to 1.45 to be Prime95 stable.

You might be right, and I might have been lucky with my FX's ;)

IIRC, my 8350 was doing 5GHz/1.5v. My 6300 4.6/1.45v. Very sensitive to cooling as well I believe.

I think the main problem is the temperature: those chips go crazy when above 70c.

The APU's need more voltage than the FX cpu's. My 7870K, 880K are 1.4875 out of the box. Way more than my 8370 or 6350.
 
^Forgot about this: set the apu to the lowest possible frauency with the lowest possible voltage. It was doable on my old A4-4000 (golden one:4.45GHz with 1.35v, on stock cooler, :D )on the cheapest available micro ATX Asus mobo, so should work on the OP one.
