I'm looking to build a fast but cheap PC using spare parts and listed parts (see 3 posts down) from Newegg.

I'm looking over at ExcaliberPC and GameE.com for the better stepping codes for both 1700 & 2100 Tbred-Bs

I don't know how much of an overclock that MSI mobo can get without a V-core adjust and I'm not sure about the multipliers. I'm after a bang-for-the-buck Max MHz possible for a midrange O/C.

So even if those 1700s can go 1.5x spec GHz, the 1700/MSI mobo may not be able to reach the Tbred-B 2100/MSI speeds at the same mobo fsb limits. I'd be real satisfied if I can get a stable 150+MHz fsb.

I'm looking for the maximum system performance possible for ~$275.

I want to order by 4/17 before another lousy bill eats up my budget for the project. Besides it's my  :bday:  present to myself.

TIA,

Your link doesn't work...says your wish list is empty...

You should copy and paste the parts you are wanting to get...and if possible...stay away from the MSI board...no matter what model...try to find a KT333 epox or abit board...those should be in your price range and can still hit the higher FSB speeds you are wanting...

get a 1700tbred b from excaliberpc, and the rest of the stuff from newegg, get an 8rda+, msi boards are nice on features, bad on overclocking
you can also get 256mb of maybe 512mb of corsair pc3200 in there....but thats my advice

Stupid cookies...

The bang for the buck argument for that MSI is the onboard LAN, audio & video. If there's other brands that have the same feature set and cost the same, I'm open to suggestions.

I'm not getting the prcessor from newegg and that's for sure.

This computer will not be an ultimate O/C scoring box, but just an E-machine on steroids. I'll build my killer SMP duallie when I have over $1k to spend.
