So i have been putting parts together for about a week now. And i want to get this finished so I can get it built already. I am moving for a 2.8/478 CPU, Chaintech MB, 2gb of ram and a 6800BFG. One of the reasons to upgrade some games I just cant play like i used to when this system was built of course. Bioshock setting has to be turned down etc. Also i have been doing more video encoding and burning, and it really lags the system down. Video editing is not top on the list but it is a reason to upgrade. Also my Chaintech MB is having some problems, not even going to go into that.

So i have picked out a few different parts let me know what you think or if i should move to something different. price range is 1500 i would like to stay in this area with a case, and cooling

MotherBoard: undecided in this area
1. ASUS P5Q-E LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131296
I have read a lot of good reviews on the ASUS boards and people suggest the asus board all the time. I picked this one over the deluxe for the extra pci x16 slot.

2. EVGA 132-CK-NF78-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188024
This is another board i like and reviews are pretty good. Main reason for picking this one is the same as the other. Just a different brand.

CPU: Undecided in this area
1. Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80570E8500
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115036
Heard good things about the Duo and i think this will handle what i am doing fine.

2. Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor Model BX80562Q6600
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115017
Same price as the DUO just don't know if it will help that much. in the long run.

Memory: Witch one is better
1. CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145197

2. GeIL Evo One 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model GE24GB1066C5DC
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820144213

Both are good from what i have been told. Reviews look ok on both.

PSU:
PC Power & Cooling S75QB 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI NVIDIA SLI Certified (Dual 8800 GTX and below) CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817703009
I am also looking at the 850W but this should be more then enough power for what i need.

Graphix:
BFG Tech BFGE88512GTSE GeForce 8800GTS (G92) 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143119
Card should be fine i think. I looked at the 260 and the 280 i don't see that much of an increase for the price i am going to pay for one of those cards. I plan on only running one Card.

HD: x2 Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500AAKS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136161
I don't store any info on my main comp it is all on the server so these should be fine. Also heard good things about the SE16's

As for the Case i am still not sure thinking of the Thermaltake Armor+MX VH8000BWS Black Aluminum / Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811133062
Might go with a different case not to sure in this area yet.

Cooling:
Undecided on either a Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme or water cooling from Danger Den. not sure witch way i am going to go yet. water cooling is priced at about 240 for what i want. I can give more detail on the parts if you want.

Sound Card:
Think i am just going to stay with the on board i use optical out to a receiver so not really a need for another part.

OS:
Probably going to go with XP 64 Still alot of stuff i use on XP, emulators and stuff that do not work on Vista yet. I will upgrade to Vista down the road just not yet.

I just need a little help guys. Also there is the DDR3 going on. I don't even know if it is wise to spend that much right now. As the computer i am on now i would like to get 4 years out of it with some upgrade as i go along. Also looking at the Gateway 24" monitor upgrade from the gateway 22" The monitor is not the money for the computer. I actually thought about just buying a prebuilt then Archer36 Preety much called me a wimp. So this is where i am at peps give me a hand.

If this were me, with those as options...

1) I like both those boards, but the Asus is probably a much better value. Plus you can't go wrong with P45

2) Then I'd take the money I saved by going with the Asus and spend it on a $275 45nm Quad Core Q9400, especially since you are into video editing.

3) I'd choose the Corsair Dominators out of those two sets of RAM

I also agree with the above statement, but i would seriously consider getting a better graphics card if you're only going with a single card solution. A 260 would give you more ram to play with when doing video editing and also is a decent upgrade from the 8800gts

Yep, I was going to suggest a better card too, but not sure what budget he's working with...

Ok well as for the video card it is another 100 bucks. still under the 1500 budget. am i going to see that big of an increase from the 8800? I have been out of the video card wars for a while if i add the quad and the 260 with the asus and corsair memory i am at 1423.93

if you go whit a quad id get a 9450 since it have 12m of cache

but for gaming a 8500 is perfect and 1/2 price

id get a better video card (4850, 4870), the link u post is expensive and relatively old

corsair ram+1
you cold save a little by going corsair psu instead of ppc

asus p45 board +1 love mine but its a pro
prefer seagate over Wd but that just me

12MB of L2 is sick, but since we know where he's at in his budget now, he'd probably be better off w/ a better card since he's a gamer.
But, it's a win/win situation; either way he'll be picking up a nice piece of equipment...

I figured you guys were going to suggest to upgrade the Video Card. I know that one is right at the bottom of the barrel right now. I don't mind to upgrade but i would like to stay with Nvidia. I have looked at the 280 and the 260 that is just a huge price increase from about 160 to 300+. Just keep coming with the ideas guys i am adjusting as i get recommendations.

The Asus without a doubt. The reason to go with a 750 is for SLI, since your not, skip it.

The Q6600 will be much better for encoding and the E8500 will be slightly better at gaiming. OC'd the Q6600 can handle itself fine gaming but the dual can only do so much in encoding. If getting every FPS in more important go with the dual, for a more well rounded machine that can also excel with encoding/video editing go with the quad.

Skip both. Go with these G.Skills. Link Neither chip is going to need more the 500Mhz FSB. Plus they are a good bit cheaper.

750W is overkill for a single card machine. The Corsair 550VX will do you nicely at 80AR. Link

If you go to a 24" you are going to have to go larger here. The ATI 4870 would be the minimum. I would go with. The best deal going is this GX2 for high res gaming on the cheap. Link

I would stick with air. The benefits of a DD kit over a TRUE are not going to be huge. If you went with a custom set-up you would do significantly better but at more a lot more costs.

Just make sure you check for drivers first. XP64 never really took off and drivers can be an issue. As light as Vista is you may be able to get by with XP32 until you are ready for Vista 64.

]Don't worry about DDR3. It's an option but with a tight budget you are better off sticking with DDR2 than compromising something else

I'm partial to Nvidia myself, but the Ati 4850 is tough to beat for the money...

Yeah, DDR3 is for people who have too much damn money, lol...besides, as you said, the CPU and GPU are far more important for a gaming machine.

well if i am going to spend 300 bucks on a Video Card again. Ill just spend the cash on the BFG Tech BFGEGTX2801024E GeForce GTX 280 1GB 512-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143141

I am still well under the 1500 dollar price. with the quad 2.66, BFG 280, g'skill memory keep the ideas coming.
